Which Stores Sell Cloth Diapers & Training Pants?

Hi, I have 2 questions
1) Where can I find cloth diapers and cloth training pants
2) Do you have a brand recommendations for either cloth diapers or training pants & why
I have been to a store out of state that has a room dedicated to a variety of cloth diapers and would be interested in finding a similar store in the local Portland/Beaverton or local surrounding area.
Thanks a bunch!

I got mine from Tidee Didee (the diaper delivery service). They have a vested interest in making sure parents have an easy time with cloth diapering ;). They have the thick cotton diapers and really really good velcro-tab wraps (their brands have switched at least once in the 8 years I've been diapering, but both work well and last long).

You'll have to call them and see if they will deliver; I think mostly they don't deliver unless you take diaper service. But they do offer washing service for sleeping bags and comforters, so you could toss the $15(?) at getting a comforter washed in their big machine, and ask them to deliver a purchase of diapers when they bring back your blanket ;).

Hi Jennifer,

I am a WAHM and the owner of www.punkinbutt.com

You are welcome to come over and view all of our diapers, covers and potty training supplies. I offer free cloth diapering lessons and baby wearing lessons. It's a great opportunity to take a look at the diapers, feel them and even try them on your little one before buying them.

I am happy to answer any questions you have too!

Sincerely,
A.

The number one place in the Portland area to purchase all the cloth diaper supplies you need (including organic cotton diapers and covers) is BabyWorks. It is located in NW Portland. However it is primarily mail order and the "retail store" is only open to the public 2 days a week. Check out the website for details. Cloth diapers are the major focus of their business and they know everything and have everything you need. Also once you've gone and checked it out it is very easy to order extra supplies online or over the phone. I have never used actual "training pants." We just kept the kids in the diper/wrap system until they were potty trained.

Also Mother Nature's in Clinton has a decent selection if you need more flexibility as far as when you can go.

As far as your second question, the unbleached organic cotton Chinese Fold style diapers have served us well. They tend to be a little rougher than the bleached ones provided by the diaper service, or maybe it just takes years for them to soften up, but they really last well. I like cotton/poly blend diaper covers such as niji (I think this is spelled wrong). I don't like all-cotton or all-wool diaper covers because they absorb more wetness and you have to change them more often.

Try Zoom Baby Gear, Mother Natures, Milagros.... online diaperswappers.com I like swaddelbees becasue they don't bunch up between the legs & are all in ones & pretty affordable. Polar babies are great if you're trying EC. good luck! Don't forget to get the indespensible diaper sprayer at Mother Natures or Milagros... makes it so much easier!

Lucky for you there are several. I know there are tons online, but here are the places I've gone:
#1 Zoom Baby Gear (zoombabygear.com) is located on N. Lombard & Greely. The owner is super knowledgeable about all options related to cloth diapering (prefolds, inserts, wool, you name it...I don't even know of all the choices). They have GREAT prices and she gives tons of advice.

#2 Mother Nature's (mothernaturesbabystore.com) is located at SE 26th & Clinton. Again the owner is sooo helpful and quite knowledgeable about prefolds. Maybe others, but I never asked about anything else. She too has some good deals and offers discounts on diapering "packages."

#3 Milagros Boutique (milagrosboutique.com) is located at NE Killingsworth & 30th. They have some stuff, but from my own investigating, not the best prices. I didn't get a whole lot of gritty info from anyone there, but they were helpful in answering basic questions.

#4 Lily Toad (lilytoad.us) is located in St. John's. It has mostly used diapering supplies (unless the new stuff has remained hidden from me).

#5 Piccolina is located across the street from Mother Nature's. You can be used stuff there.

There is another place on NE Broadway and the name totally escapes me right now. My best endorsement goes to Zoom Baby Gear as the shop is small and the owner has always given me her undivided attention. I told her we were doing prefolds, but she asked if I wanted to hear about other options, including wool. We now use wool for nighttime and my daughter hasn't leaked ONCE--she's a 12-hour sleeper.

If you look in the "shops" section of Mamasource, you'll find Punkin Butts. I don't know if she has a store, but she is definitely online. While I've never purchased from here she was very generous in offering me advice when I was looking for overnight solutions for my daughter. She'll proably respond to your request as well.

Good luck and enjoy cloth diapering!

I checked before I started writing this. Audrey is the best when it comes to cloth diapering. She has at least 6 different brands and styles. Her website has wonderful articles about cloth diapering. So if you are going anywhere I would recommend Audrey and Punkin Butt.
