Which Level BOB Books Should I Order?

My son just turned 3 and he absolutely loves reading. Thought I'd order BOB books for him but not sure which set to start with? He knows his upper and lowercase letters very well and can say what sounds they make consistently. I'm wondering if the pre-reader set would be a bit easy for him and if we should start with Set 1? Any experienced mamas or teachers out there? Thanks! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Moms! :) I think I'll order set 1 and go from there. I tried reserving a copy at a few local libraries but between the wait time and my HORRIBLE library item return record (i know! i know! guilt!), think it would be worth it for me to invest in a set. If he ends up needing a level up soon, no biggie... it'll be there waiting for his baby sister. THANK YOU! :)

My daughter will be 3 in a month and is currently using Set 1 of the BOB books. Like your son, she recognizes all uppercase and lowercase letters along with their sounds. She has had the set for about a week and is "reading" all the books. I will stick with this set until I am confident that she can recognize all the sight words and sound out all the phonetic combinations that are introduced in the first set. I do not believe learning to read at this age is as important as acquiring a large and varied vocabulary. However, if your child wants to read, always follow your child's lead. Good luck.

I would take him to the library and let him look at them. It will give you a chance to see where he is.

I did not even realize our daughter could read. I purchased the first set, on the way home from the book store she read all of them aloud to me. I had to turn the car around and exchange them for the second set!

We loved BOB books. They are very good. I would check the Library and see what you can do. I would say get the first set, but it is sooooo easy that maybe he will be done with one or two word sentences in a short time. So look at the library and see what he can do. That is awesome for him to be so young and already trying to read.

I would start with Set 1. That's what we did with my son and they are really basic in the beginning. The first book goes something like this:
Sam
Sam sat
Mat
Mat sat
Sam sat on Mat
Mat sat on Sam
The End

If you think he can figure that out, skip the pre-reader. If you don't think he can do that yet, honestly, I'd wait awhile before starting any of it. Just turned 3 is still very young!
