I just turned 40 last week and as my gift, my husband is taking me on a 3 day weekend to celebrate. This will be our first trip all alone!! Since it's kind of last minute, we will be driving, so he suggested Shreveport,LA or Austin,TX. Have any of you been to either? What is there to do? Are there any nice restaurants or spas that you would reccomend? Entertainment, hotels? Likes or dislikes? Pros & cons? I know nothing about either of these places and I'd like to have a memorable weekend, so I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions you have for me.

Thanks for the advice ladies. We went to Austin this past weekend and it was the perfect location for us to celebrate and enjoy some much needed time as a couple. It was just the little romantic get-away that we needed! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Austin is my favorite place. The beautiful water, German food, canoeing, tubing, water parks, German influence throughout the town continues to offer really fond memories of vacations when my kids were growing up. The only thing I know about Shreveport would be the casinos, not my thing.
I assume San Antonio is not an option? It's only a little over an hour after Austin, and there is soooooo much more to do there. As others said Shreveport is great only if you like to gamble. Austin is great for clubbing and college type entertainment. There is also Fredricksburg and other Hill Country destinations that are more romantic and laid back (which would be my choice). http://www.fredericksburg-texas.com/
Like another poster....if you gamble you will have fun in Shreveport.
I prefer Austin. 6th street is the party street. I like the college town and lot of things to do.

I spent a lot of time in Shreveport a few years ago for work and stayed at the Horseshoe, which is great. With that said, unless you're going to gamble, there isn't anything else to do there. Austin is good b/c you're close to other things to do too.
