Britax - any one of them. The Roundabout is the smallest, but it's also the fastest for them to outgrow. We have that one as well as the Boulevard and love them both.
My DD just turned 1 this week. and subsequently is also to big for her infant carrier.
I have a Mazda RX8, very small anyone know what cardeat will fit best in that type of car.
Any suggestions on which one to buy. Several people I have talked to said the Cosco Alpha Omega...any other ideas.

Cheaper than the britax but just as great with an extra 5 lb limit is the Evenflow Triumph Advance. I have a Civic with the Triumph Advance and love it. It is very plush comfy and has an excellent safety rating. Check it out there are three price ranges...all very reasonable.

I second the Cosco Alpha Omega.. it has been very good to us.
I also drive a Mazda RX8. I have the Britax Diplomat and LOVE IT!!! So does my daughter. I don't know anything about the Costco brand. I found that if the seat didn't have Latch installation system where you can push a button to release the latch, it was very difficult to install the seat, much less take it out.
I'm totally amazed your baby was in the infant carrier this long. My little Elizabeth is 10 months old and is wearing 18 month clothing. I'm just sooooo ready to turn the car seat around!
GL in your decision!
Britax without a doubt. We have a marathon and the big huge one and love them both.
I love our Britax car seats. Ours are pretty big, but I think they sell a small called the roundabout.
Most of our friends loved the alpha omega. However, their kids also outgrew the infant carrier before they were a year old. Our daughter was (still is) pretty small. So, we didn't feel the need to get the 5-100lb range convertible car seat (she'd be a teenager before she outgrew it!). We got a smaller one that just went to 40 pounds. It was the Graco Comfortsport. I think it's called something else now. It was great for her, and she was nearly 4 before she outgrew the straps (still isn't over the weight limit at 5). I suggest taking her to Target or Babies R Us and seeing which one she seems to fit best in. Also, Babies R Us will let you take a seat out and see if it fits in your car. Just ask an employee and they'll help you out with it.
Alpha Omega's/3-in-1 seats suck royally. Not worth the $$ as most kids outgrow them way early either forcing their parents to buy a new seat to keep them harnessed or put them in the seat as a booster way too early.
Britax or Evenflo makes great convertibles that would allow your daughter to stay rear facing to 33 or 35lbs and then stay harness forward facing for a bit longer than the Graco Comfortsport (another seat that gets outgrown really early)
Britax is definately the best you can buy. They're the safest and, in my opinon, the best put together. I drive a smaller car and have the Regent. My son outgrew his infant carrier around 4 months -- he's tall. I got a Graco, but it fell apart fairly quickly. If only I had gotten the Britax sooner, I would have saved all the $$ I spent on the Graco.
