My niece, 19, has relized that she should not have a puppy, which I told her from the beginning but now she wants me to help her and I do not know where to start to find a forever home for him. He is not a bad dog, needs some training is great with my dogs and my small children. So if anyone knows a good solution I would love to hear it!

What can I do next?

You could see if there are rescues for his specific breed and see if they have any leads for askers. Since he's a puppy he could probably have a home found for him relatively quickly with the help of a rescue. They would also make sure that he's up to date on his vaccinations and other medical needs, and they would have an application process for people interested in adopting him.

l would start with a rescue foundation like:

Mutts Matter
http://muttsmatterrescue.com/contact_us.html

Lost Dog Rescue foundation
http://lostdogrescue.org/

if the dog is a pure bred or a "popular" breed - there are rescue sites for them as well. You don't say what breed the puppy is or the problem with the puppy.

DO NOT do Craigslist for the puppy. You never know what crazy you will get to adopt the puppy. That's NOT fair to the puppy.

If she doesn't want to do that - start with the person she bought the dog from or the vet she has taken him to to have his shots, etc. Most times vets will help place dogs.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! DO NOT just give the puppy away or put it on craigslist.

Ask if any local vets or shelters would let you post a picture & info. I've seen vets with a bulletin board just for this purpose.

Please do not put it in a shelter. It is not the puppys fault he is not wanted.
Find a rescue for that particular breed. My heart breaks for him. So sad.

Is he a pure bred dog? There are many breeds that have their own resuce group that people have to pay and are screened. You can also run a ad in the newspaper and check with various rescue groups of mixed breed dogs if he is not pure bred.

Hope this helps. There are far to many dogs killed everyday because of irresponsible owners.

Talk to her vet - many times they can help place a dog with a new family that they know are looking.
