Hi - I have a six year old daughter who has been asking to play the violin for about the last six months. Does anyone have a suggestion for where to take children's violin lessons in the Western suburbs? We live in Hinsdale. Also, are there places that will rent a violin or sell a used violin until we determine if she is going to stick with it?

She takes lessons at Moraine Valley Community College...not sure it's the greatest, but it is reasonable and hopefully good enough for an intro. Still in the middle of her first session & undecided if/where we will continue.
My next door neighbor gives both violin and piano lessons from her home. Would you like me to see if she is accepting students? She gives private lessons and also teaches at a northern suburb school.
Wheaton College Community School for the Arts offers violin lessons in various methods. For a violin, usually music stores will rent or sell used ones. I would suggest you call your local store and ask them. Even if they don't they could tell you who will. Make sure you buy a used one from a reputable seller. Otherwise you could get one that has been damaged slightly but enough to be useless.
I just started my son in violin lesson at the Naperville Suzuki School of Music. He is going to be 6 in the next couple of weeks, and he really likes the lessons. They also teach in your area. They have violins right at the music center that you can rent, so it takes the leg work and hassle away from you of trying to find a violin for your child. The lessons cost $497 for every 12 weeks, and that includes a half hour private lesson once a week and a half hour group lesson once a week.
