Where to Go - Montgomery,IL

Hey S.: How about a taste of the west? I live in Dallas, TX...(usually an airport HUB for many airlines, therefore cost effective) there are a lot of things to do here. We have the West End, where you can shop, eat, sleep. We have a Hard Rock Cafe there. Fort Worth has all of the western shopping, and events. There is the school book depository in Dallas where JFK was shot, and museum (history), We also have another historical place to visit near downtown Dallas.. http://www.dallasheritagevillage.org... also Grapevine, TX is near the DFW airport with tons of shopping, history, and an 1800's train called the Tarantula that will take you to Ft. Worth to shop for the day and have lunch.

Also, I agree with the other mom about Chicago....loved it, went for a few days and there was so much to see, and didn't get to see it all. Either way have a wonderful few days!

Try Chicago. There are tons of great places to eat, nice hotels and attractions all on the Magnificent mile! Treat yourselves to a hotel with a spa and get couples massage. Check out the museums, the lake front. Navy Pier has dinner boat cruises that are really nice. Did I mention the shopping is fab ! If you need any suggestions, send me a message. Contrary to belief and the media Detroit is a nice place to visit. We have nice hotels, 3 casinos, a riverwalk, muesuems, events, Canada is a 3 minute ride across a bridge or tunnel,(must have passport or birth certificate). We have a lot of things to offer. And no you will not get robbed or anything like that. the media never shows the good things about us so people get a bad misconception about Detroit. but even if you don't cpme here there was a report done last week about how alot of people have been visiting our beaches due to the oil spills. We have alot to ffer in Michigan period! good luck on your travels where ever you may go!

Have you thought about doing a mini road trip with your husband? My husband and kids just did this for 4th of July. We knew we had a 5 days to do as we please (my husband had a last minute automatic shutdown for the holiday week so we didn't really have time to plan a real trip). We live in Ohio and start to PA first and visited family (for you guys I wouldn't suggest but we had our kids with us so we wanted them to see everyone). Then even though my husband grew up in PA we still did the touristy thing around town and stuff. Then we got into the car with the kids and drove to Baltimore and spent the day at Inner Harbor and checked out all the ships. Then, again packed up in the car and just drove till we would fin a hotel. We made it all the way to Rehobith Beach, DE and spent a day at the beach. Then did the same thing on the way home, just made stops wherever we wanted and never really had a plan. My husband and I used to do that before we had kids so it was really nice that we got to do it again and include our kids in on our spontaniousness!

First week of August, Grand Haven MI, has coast gaurd festival. You have the options of beaches, if you want or boating, or walking around with a ton of cute little shops. You can eat on the water, but in ac if you want. There are also fireworks, rides, shops, stands, music etc. There is also an musical fountain to watch.
Whatever you decide, have fun!!

While your son is at camp, is there someone who will be an emergency contact while you are away? My first time at camp I broke my arm in the middle of the week. There are all kinds of places tucked around the Great Lakes. I have no idea if you want romance, fishing, amusement parks (Sandusky, Ohio is fun) - there are all kinds of getaways. Why not take a look at some AAA tour books for the areas you are interested in?

I live in st.l and we visit michigan at least 1x a year. When it was 100 at home in june everyonewas complaining that it was sooo hot at 80 up there. I have heard stories about the u.p. In mich that sound like wonderful places to visit. It's not hot there so outside stuff is fine.
if it was me and my hubby I would go to new orleans. I love it there and there is so much to do not including the french quarter. I've been there atleast 6 times. It kinda feels like a different country. From st.l it's bout 10hours to drive (dont know how far you are from st.l but it's prob worth the alone time to catch up w/ your hubby w/all the hours in the car. There are some great old hotels in the quarter to stay at and some wonderful b&bs. Let us all know after your trip where you went and if you had fun.
