She's a mom I know from ECFE (st. Paul Highland area) - she does fantastic work, is totally affordable, custom cakes, and she'll deliver.
Hi,
My youngest is turning 2 in a couple weeks. The only character she has ever shown any interest in is Dora, so I want to get her a cool Dora cake for her birhtday. I searched Lunds, Byerlys, Super Target and Cub, but all of their cakes are the boring sheet cakes with a little Dora design. I want a round, two-tiered, super colorful, exciting cake. Any suggestions on specialty bakeries between Eagan and New Prague, or in close proximity thereof? I found an awesome cake as I searhed online, but it was a bake-your-own and I don't have the time or skills to attempt it.
Thanks in advance!

Another vote for Eidelweiss bakery in Prior Lake. We LOVE their cakes and they are so creative and different from the regular Target sheet cake. You won't be disappointed!
Here's one. Its a bit a way from you. But they do a great job in making fun and cute cake options. And suprisingly the prices are reasonable. 'Queen of Cakes' in Edina...just off of Hwy 100. A little West of South Dale Mall. ###-###-#### or www.queen-of-cakes.com

My little 3yr old girl really likes Minnie Mouse. I couldnt seem to find any place to do a Minnie cake. So I went online and looked at Minnie cakes to get an idea of the different designs, then I went to Party City. I looked at all the different themes for parties and found Minnie Mouse. They had some Minnie accessories so I bought some of those. Then I went to Rainbow and asked if they could decorate a cake with particular colors I had picked out from the designs I saw on the internet. They said they could do that, then I put the Minnie accessories on the top of the cake and my daughter just loved it! Dora is very popular so it shouldnt be too hard to find some Dora accessories at Party City or Paper Warehouse etc. Hopefully you will find this helpful. Good Luck!

We had Queen of Cakes a couple weeks ago do a fantastic cookie monster cake for my son's 2 yr "Monster" party. It was so yummy! I, too, had a difficult time finding cakes that weren't boring. I believe they can't make character cakes b/c of the licensing. They only can use what the brands tell them they can use.
I was so frustrated, I left it until the last minute and called 2 days in advance. I told Queen of Cakes over the phone what I wanted and I knew just by talking to them they understood. I figured they knew their stuff b/c I saw some pictures online of some of their work but I had no idea what to expect (taste-wise) b/c I had never eaten anything from their bakery. Everything about it was perfect - well, if it would have been free . . . it would have been much more perfect - ha!! They are located in Edina.
I plan to use them in the near future!
I hope you get more replies! My daughter is also turning 2 soon (12/5) and she LOVES Dora!
The Baker's Wife in South Minneapolis has wonderful inexpensive cakes. They are the round tiered cakes and they will decorate it however you want. It is just a little local place with excellent stuff. They also have quite a few varieties of cake flavors and icings.
Edelweiss Bakery in Prior Lake is the best in my opinion! Check out their website here: http://www.edelweissbakery.net/default.html.
My husband and I got our wedding cake from them and we had so many compliments from our guests on how fabulous it tasted! They offer many flavors of cake and also many flavors of icing. They do all sorts of specialty cakes, so I would recommend you check them out!
I hacen't been there in years, but is Patty's cafe still on Main in New Prague. At least I think it's called Patty's, it's a cafe next to the consignment shop? She might be able to come up with something. Otherwise, I don't know of any decorators in the south metro. But you could also try looking at some wedding places, and contacting some bakers on there. Maybe you could print off the internet what you saw and ask if they could duplicate it.
