We need to lighten the toy load in our house. We packed up a bunch of gently used toys, but found out that our local donation center doesn't take toys, only clothing. Any places you know of where used toys are welcome? We live in the Cary/Crystal Lake area.

Thnaks in advance!

What can I do next?

One of the closest to you is Sparrow's Nest off of 14 in Cary. Proceeds go to a homeless women and children's shelter.

We donate a lot to the Cancer Federation. They will accept toys. Their number is 800-962-3260....just call and arrange for a pick-up!

You can donate them to me! lol Just kidding!

I have given and recieved things from Freecycle.org. It is a great site to post the things you no longer want and someone who is interested will email you and then you set up a time to have them come and get them or to meet somewhere. Also you can post on there if there is ever something you need/want and if someone has one that is just sitting around collecting dust they will email you! It is a great site to help keep things out of the landfills.

I hope you find someplace to donate your things soon... I know we just gave away some of her younger things on Freecycle to make room for ones I might find at garage sales this summer.
Many blessings to you and yours!

Hi T.,

I am in CL and belong to a great moms group in the area. Two years ago, Mom-2-Mom donated toys to a pregnancy crisis center in Elgin. I can't remember if Turning Point in Woodstock accepted them in our last outreach collection. I will check our past newsletters and see if I can find more information.

Actually schools need them, like special education classes. SEDOM (special education district of McHenry County) has classes in every district and they really enjoy the toys. Especially, ones that you push buttons and something happens, or anything that will work on skills. Plus, you will be surprised how special needs students need things to hold, like little infant toys to help with kinestics...etc. I used to be a special ed. teacher and am now an assistant principal and in my building there are 2 classes (even a middle school) that get so excited when I bring my son's toys (19 months old). So think about that!!

You could give Once Upon A Child a call. They should be able to help you. They are located by the Pizza Hut in West Dundee.

I use to work at a daycare center and most of them are eager to receive any toys and books! Maybe just call ahead.

I use the Cancer Federation at 1-800-962-3260. They take clothes, toys, small pieces of furniture. You just leave your things out by 7am and they come and pick it up. It's great for when the kids grow our of their clothes also. I hope this helps.

Hi,
Your local daycare would be a great place to donate. Most Kindercares would love a donation.
