Okay yesterday my daughter started to get cuddely and had a slight fever so i gave her childrens advil fever reducer and it helped lower it and even break it then last night she woke up and was fevered up again so i laid her with me on the futon and she has had a slight fever all day and this afternoon after she woke up from her nap her temp was 102.8 and i gave her more medicine and it went back down and right before bed it was at 101.8 again so i gave her another dose. I am not sure if it is teething or an ear infection or infection of some sort. I plan on monitering her tomorrow all day and see where she is at temp wise. (her normal temp is 98.8) I know i do not want to wait too long with it spiking up. (she has hardly ever been sick or had a temp in the past 2 yrs so i am stll kinda unsure about these things) when would i need to take her in to the dr or er like what temp would require an emergency visit. if it is still going up n down tomorrow i plan on calling her dr once i check her a few times (every couple hrs)

What can I do next?

General rule with my ped is 3 days of a fever bring them in unless their symptoms or behavior indicate they should be seen sooner.

My daughter always spikes high fevers when shes teething, specially when shes getting her molars in.

Is there any way you can have her open her mouth to see if a tooth is coming in? Or rub the gums and tell that way? If you can, then it could just be teething.

Calling the dr in the morning isn't such a bad idea.

Hey mama!
I know alot of moms let the fever go and" do its job" I don't agree. A fever imo is a sign of infection and my baby gets strep alot and it can't go untreated. It can be dangerous so I always just have it checked to be sure. Better safe than sorry!

I think every ped has a different "rule." Mine says not to worry about how high the temp gets, but to bring them in/go to the ER based on the sick child's behavior. If they're acting ok/fairly comfortable, no need to worry. That's what I was told when I called to say that my daughter's temp reached 104.8 (I read online that you should go to the ER at 105). I just kept giving her Tylenol/Ibuprofen, and after 4 days her fever broke.

Of course, I think it depends on the age too. You don't mention how old your daughter is. I think under 2, they tell you go to go see the dr if the fever last more than 48 -72 hrs.

I'd call the doctor and find out what they think about when to go in. If her fever doesn't go down after having the meds, that is a big sign to go to the ER (my daughter did that once, her fever kept going up, not a good thing). But her temp isn't too terribly high, though not very low either! But if it was around 104-105, I'd definitely go in to the dr and make sure she's okay and doesn't have flu/strep. Hope she feels better soon!

I know you mentioned on day 1 your daughter started getting cuddling, how has her mood and affect been since? I only ask this because my oldest son never ran a fever (except with vaccines) until this year (3 yrs old) but I could tell he was sick, he would lay around and basically slept all day long. I was really worried about him, but the fever broke on the 3rd and he was fine! If he wasn't better by Monday (4th day) I planned on taking him in!

On the other hand my 21 month old runs fevers with any little sickness, even teething, yes 102 with teething--I've taking him in multiple times swearing he had an ear infection or something. Could be some random virus but so far the only common thread was teething! Outside of side sleeping issues, when this kid runs a fever, he's perfectly fine! Running playing, eating only problem is sleeping which is when I would medicate him! During the day I just let it go!

My tell tell sign when to take my kids in, is how they act not so much how high the temperature was! The both times my 21 month old had ear infections, there were no fevers just one cranking, non sleeping or eating baby :)

Hope this helps

In all honesty I would go to the doctor if the fever doesn't go away on it's own in 24 hours. If the Doctor can't find anything wrong except a fever they may tell you to wait longer but if it doesn't go away on its own in that time there is probably something more going on. If the fever goes higher than 103.5 I would say ER time. If the medicine is helping keep it going and keep checking. If she starts having other symptoms go regardless. Fevers can be dangerous.
