I have a 16 month old baby girl, that keeps taking her diaper off when its a little messy, and points to the backside when she is poopy. She just had a tragic accident almost 2 months ago, she nearly drowned, but does seem a little more advanced at this age, than what my older two children were at this age. If anybody can help with any answers or suggestions that will be great.

So What Happened?

Well she hasnt been taking her diapers off nearly as much, and the interest in the little potty has decrease a little bit, but she just likes to sit on it for fun, as well as looks at the bigger one, but looks as if she has a little bit of fear when i sit her on it after she points to it. She will be going on 20 months old here in a couple of weeks, and is starting to talk a little more. If anybody thinks she may be ready for me to try potty training with again please give me all the advice you can. We are also planning to move sometime this year to another state, and I sure would love for her to be potty trained by then, but if not that is okay to.
Thank You

I was told that about 18 months their muscles have matured enough to know how to " hold it". But if she is showing interest, Have at it. My 3 year old was potty trained about 2 and I will start my 15 month old in a few months. She is also showing interest because of watching her older sister. Have fun....I welcome no diapers as early as I can.

I've known people that started potty training at 1 year, if she is showing signs of readiness I would just go with it.

I don't think it's too early if she is showing interest. Just let her go her own pace. My two year old son has been peeing in the potty since his first birthday because he sees his brother do it. If she's interested and wanting to, let her go for it!! You might be lucky and have her trained before you know it! She might not be completely ready to train, but she can save you a few diapers until then!

M., my sister in laws doctor told her that she should wait until her daughter was two years old or else she'll will have more accidents than she might otherwise. she said that with her first daughter she didn't wait until two and with her second daughter she did wait, and her second daughter didn't have nearly as many accidents/relapses as her oldest daughter did. i don't know if this is true for all kids, but it seemed to be true for hers! good luck with the potty training.
