My daughter rubbed all the hair off the sides of her head as a newborn, and it has taken 2 years to fill in. I've been starting to worry she'll have a mullet forever! :)
our darling son is about 2.5 months old now. He's our first. While he was born with a full head of hair, its now patchy on the back of his head. Its wearing away where it touches his crib, car seat, swing, etc. Any idea of when it might grow back?
thanks for all your helpful advice mamas.

By daughter had a bald spot from being on her back so much as a newborn and the first few months. By 5-6 months she was sitting with her head up most of the time and it started growing in. It did take a while to completely cover the spot--she was between 12-18 months before it was totally gone. I did have to trim her hair so it was all one length. She just turned 2 and has collar length hair all around. With a boy you can easily do a shorter haircut, especially in the summer so it may be grown out sooner.
It should be back in a few months. I have friends who helped their sons' hair grow in faster and thicker by shaving their heads with the clippers.
Dear Lori, I can't say exactly when his hair will grow back but it will. That new baby hair will be replaced with his permanent hair. They lose it from rubbing. One of mine lost some hair when I took a washcloth to his head... it was his christening day and so much hair came off on the washcloth. It is winter so baby will wear a hat when he goes out... I'm sure he will have hair by spring... Grandma Mary
When they get more mobile, crawling etc., it will fill in.
Don't worry.... this is common in infants.
My son, had that AND a "mohawk" on top of his head (no hair on the sides of his head, just on top real thick)... AND he had bad infant acne. We took photos of him like any parent would of their new baby.... and it is a 'cute' sentimental memento of him, as a baby.....
Get the book: "What To Expect The First Year." Real good.
This is totally normal. It really is.
With my first baby I thought, "Oh my God...she's going bald!"
I don't remember how long it took for her, different with all babies I suppose, but both of my kids have great head fulls of healthy hair.
Try not to worry.
Best wishes!
It varies; my girls were bald for a year.
My daughter didn't really get any hair back until after she was a year old. It's now very thick and beautiful, so I wouldn't worry at all :)
My DD had the same thing.. full hair when she was born, then most of it fell out. She looked like a little old man! Then it started rubbing out where she was sleeping... It started getting a LOT better when she hit 3-4 months, and was rolling herself over instead of spending so much time on her head. Now, she is 8 months old and I can put her hair up in pig-tails. :)
