When Do Babies Eyes Change Color?

My baby is 6 months old and her eyes are still the same dark blue as when she was born. There's no blue eyes in either of our families and I assumed they would change to green or hazel like my husband and I. All the books I've read say they would change by the time she's 6 months. If your child has green or hazel eyes, do you remember when they changed to that color? I'm not concerned, just curious.

What can I do next?

My daughters eyes were blue until she was at least 2. She's 4 now and has beautiful hazel eyes. I say hazel because they dont' fit the decsription of any other color, but I don't think of hers at the traditional hazel either.
The whole 6 month thing is bogus. I thought for sure she was going to have blue eyes like me, but that didn't prove to be the case.

My daughters eyes were very blue until she was about 2 yrs old then they turned green. Both my neice and nephew did the same thing only they were a about 1 1/2 when they changed.
So you may have a blue eyed girl or you may have ?????? :)

Hi C.,

My oldest daughter has very dark hazel eyes. Hers changed around 9 months. There is also the possibility they will stay blue. Blue eyes are a double recessive trait. If you and your husband both have the recessive gene for blue eyes theres a chance your daughter's eyes will stay blue.

6 months is normal to go from light (blue) to brown, but not necessarily from blue to another light color like green. My eyes were blue for quite some time and gradually over the years turned to green. My mom has pictures of me at 4 with bright blue eyes...but they are very green now.
One thing to know is that two light eyed parents will always have a light-eyed child--light (green/blue) is a recessive gene so you need to have 2 of the 2 genes to have light eyes, whereas one light and one dark gene would produce brown eyes--so both parents with light eyes means there are no dark genes to pass down, and therefore will only have light eyed children. Hey I learned that at the science center...lol

Hey C.,

My first daughter's eyes are still changing and she is 3. They didn't start changing until she was about 18 months. We thought she was going to have blue eyes. My youngest daughter's eyes started changing when she was a 3 months old. So I guess it varies.

It all depends. My son's eyes are technicolor. He started with Bright Blue eyes and now they change depending on his mood. Genes can go back up to 5 generations. So you might want to go further back than just you and your husbands.

Most babies change by the age of 6months but some don't change until after they are 5yrs old. Even if neither of you have blue on the family but have green and or hazel they can stay blue.
