When mine were little I used the kitchen sink. As soon as they were big enough to sit up, they went to the bathtub. I used a mat to keep them from slipping around but they got a regular bath.

We used an inflatable tub, kind of like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Kirby-Inflatable-Tub/dp/...
It was the best thing ever for us! We probably used it til the kids were at least 3 or 4 years old. Maybe it would be a good alternative for you.

It would be a little more expensive, but if you got a durable ice chest it will keep the water from cooling off so quickly, will stand up to the weight better than storage bins, and they have a drain at the bottom that will make clean up easier and less messy.

The baby bathtubs I see now are crazy and a waste of time. They are skinny, sloped and have a seat that never lets the baby bottom actually get washed. The baby sits in them and shivers cause they get wet but arent IN the water. Id rather lay the child on a towel on the counter next to the sink and wash them with a cloth. As big as your daughter is now you cant use it at all. A shower is hard to do for a 16 month old and you and the floor usually end up soaked and holding her hand, and water sprays in her face. its just hard. Id go to a store and buy a plastic storage bin that is the right size to fit inside the shower. Get one that is only about 6-8 inches deep and set it in the shower. Fill it and then she has her own little tub. You can empty it right into the shower when done and store under a bed or where ever. I can see needing to do this for a couple years and then she will be better able to stand and wash in the shower by herself. Gosh, you may need to start looking for a different home that comes with a tub.

At that age I was showering with my youngest. If you are nervous about her falling then hop in with her.

My daughter wouldn't stand up in a shower until she turned 6--the water freaked her out too much. My son is 3 and also has a tantrum if he has to stand up and be sprayed, even though he loves the water.

In our extended family's vacation home there are no tubs, and we've stuck small inflatable swimming pools in the bottom of the shower. If you have a removable shower head, you can bring it down to the "bathtub" when it's bathtime. Worked fine for us.

I stopped using it when they got too big. I sometimes used a plastic drink tub to bathe them in though. Falling shouldn't be an issue since you're going to be right there with her. I assume you would hold on to her while she is standing or sit her down to be bathed. Best wishes!

When mine were toddlers and we would go on vacation to my parent's summer home, we used a large icechest. THey had no shower either.

What about getting one of those small inflatable kiddie pools? Maybe there are inflatable vacation bathtubs like that.

you could use the kitchen sink....or get a large bucket for the shower.

There is no bath tub in my home, so my son has been 'in the shower' since he outgrew the kitchen sink. I had an infant-to-toddler bathtub in the bottom of the shower and filled it with water to wash, then rinsed with the 'extra well' on the side. When he got a little bigger, I took out the well and he used it until he was too big, at about 2 or 2-1/2 years old if I remember correctly. (The tub looked like this: http://bit.ly/kaDGaQ or http://bit.ly/mhwgys for girls, or here's a Disney one: http://amzn.to/l4iiNr) I got it at Babies R Us. This also looks promising: http://bit.ly/kzWJHV.

I've always taken my kids in the shower with me. My 10-mo old loves shower time. She sits on the floor and plays with bath toys while I clean up, and then I wash her.

I still use the safety 1st inflatable tub Noelle suggested & my son is 2.5. Uses less water than filling the whole tub and it's not too big if you just have a shower or you can use it on the floor.

I think I gave up on the infant bathtub, when my oldest was about a month or two old. We have an extra long and extra deep kitchen sink, and my almost 5-year-old still (still small for her age) occasionally likes the novelty of a sink bath. Aside from that, my girls have gotten in the shower with me since they were old enough to stand up in it.

I find what helps immensely: We have two shower heads, one "rain" style, and one hand-held. I can switch between the two, or turn them on simultaneously. The latter works best, so I can stand under the "rain" and stay warm, while using the hand-held to rinse her.
We have something kind of like this:

We have a tub, but sometimes my 16 month old takes a shower with his older brother (almost 4). I kneel right next to the tub and hold my little one's hand. I use my other hand to soap him up and wash his hair. Sometimes he'll sit instead of stand. I give him a cup to play with while I wash him. He is usually only in there a few minutes, so it's much quicker than a bath!

Wow! 16 months is way old enough to shower. We've been showering our boys since about 3 months. Since they could stand independently, they've just stood in there while my hubby or I take a shower. I didn't even think about non-slip mats. We've had no accidents or problems. If you're worried, why not just sit her down in the shower?

I stopped using the baby tub once my kids were old enough to sit up on their own. I just washed them in the bathtub and used the handheld shower head. I think you're fine getting a mat for the floor in the shower.

Get a non-slip mat for the shower.
Safer.
Much safer.

She can still sit on it. On the mat.
Of course you will be there with her.
There are also covers for the water spout.... padded inflatable things.
I've seen those in baby stores.

I used the "Primo EuroBath." It can be used even for toddlers. My kids, who are tall kids, even at 2 years old could still fit in it fine.
We got this as a gift.
I loved this bath.
