Paraguard is good to go the day it's inserted.
Hi, I recently got ParaGard birth control insert. I got it in June and just had my one month check it yesterday to see how everything is going and the doctor said it is in place perfect and good to go. I read the ParaGard book and it said that even though it is almost effective instantly, that i should use condoms until my one month check to be sure it is in place. So i have been using condoms with it but like i said i had my check up yesterday and everything is perfect and my doctor said i am good to go and can do whatever now. I am just wondering when is it safe to stop using condoms now and those of you that are on paragard, when did you stop using them? Thanks.
Thank you all! Needless to say, my husband is all excited! LOL. Goodluck to all of you as well!

I stopped as soon as it went in and no one ever told me to have a one month check. I was told to check to make sure I could feel the stings once month and if I could I was good to go. I never did this though and never had a problem.
Paraguard is good to go on day one. It is actually effective in preventing pregnancy even if it is inserted after having unprotected sex (as an alternative to the morning after pill). I have never before heard that you should use "backup" BC.
So you can ditch the condoms.
My doc said it was effective immediately....
Green Light !! NO more $$ spent on condoms for you guys :-) HAVE FUN
