I would say 3 is the best age. You can't be too careful!

I asked my son's pediatrician the same question. He said NO pillows before age 3! I was really surprised. Blankets are okay at 12 months but pillows are still too soft and bulky to be appropriate for them to sleep with. I thought that was very interesting and hope it helps answer your question.

You could try putting the pillow underneath the fitted sheet on her bed. That way she would still have the comfort of a pillow, but she couldn't get wrapped up in it or under it and suffocate. I did this with my oldest daughter and it worked great.

My son is almost a year old and has been using a pillow since he was 6 months old. I got one that is not real fluffy so as not to suffocate him when he is asleep but he loves to snuggle on my pillows. It helped him sleep thru the night.

I would think that you can give her a small one now because she is old enough to know how and when to move her head around. If she was younger i wouldn't because little children can easily suffocate because they can't move their head when and if their head was to sink into the pillow and they felt like they couldn't breath properly. I have 3 children and my oldest is 6 and my youngest is 3 alost 4 and he has been sleeping with a pillow since i knew he could move his head around if he felt suffocated. I would say give her a small on elike when she takes a nap and just have her in a room with you so you can watch her behavior and see how she does with it so you can decide if you feel comfortable letting her sleep with it or not. I would try that before i just let her have one all night long.

I didn't give my children a pillow until they were out of the baby bed. When they were in toddler beds, I got them a small pillow.
