We are in the middle of food allergy testing. So my question to you is what kind of WHEAT free snacks would you send your 1st grade boy to have for everyday snack? I thought of carrots, celery, granola bars. Teacher wants us to use healthier snacks verses the sugar-ry snacks.

What can I do next?

Fruit, low sugar yogurt, cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs, tortilla chips and salsa, nuts/seeds/raisins.
Read all labels on granola/cereal bars and lunch meat because many of those contain gluten which is what you're trying to avoid :)

Fresh fruit - think strawberries, apple slices, grapes, a banana
Veggies like carrots and celery sticks, grape tomatoes
Cheese stick, yogurt
Snacks made with other grains - I think maybe Pirate's Booty might be one?

Just read ingredient labels. :-) Get him involved in choices so that he's invested in them.

Nature Valley has some great options and a wide variety.

Try gluten-free rice Chex cereals, mixed with raisins, gluten-free pretzels (I found Glutino brand pretzels at Whole Foods and other health food stores and honestly could not detect that they were wheat- and gluten-free), and maybe just a little bit of gluten-free mini chocolate chips.

Using the Chex cereals and pretzels as a base, you could vary this snack in a million ways, with dried apple bits, dried strawberries, dried banana chips, dried cranberries, fresh grapes, yogurt-covered raisins, a little chopped cooked bacon, cheese cubes ...

I would also use cheese sticks, yogurt, pickles (I sometimes wrap the pickle spear in ham our turkey for snacks.
