I always worry about what to pack, I forget this and that. Do you have a steady list of what you take when you go on vacation in DETAIL?

What do you use to put your bathroom items in that is portable and that can get wet? I don't have a bag that you hang up thinking about getting one..
We will be going the start of August

What can I do next?

Yes, I have a "packing list" stored on my computer. About a week before a trip, I pull it up and make adjustments depending on where we are going and "how long". That list is also very helpful when packing to come home- nothing gets left behind!

I have a plastic toiletry bag. They are really inexpensive and you can get them just about anywhere. Oh and to answer your post question... a couple of bathing suits and my Kindle!

I have a comprehensive packing list that I use for all types of travel, including when we've stayed in vacation homes. I'd be happy to share, and could send it as an email attachment or cut and paste into a pm.

Bathroom items can go in a a plastic basket or ziploc bags. You could also get one of the over the door shoe holders with the see through pockets, pack it and have everything ready to hang in the bathroom when you get there.

I have stayed at a Wisconsin lake house several times, which is pretty darned close to Michigan so I will weigh in. I'm going to guess you are visiting in August or later due to the timing of your post. So I would suggest a set of sweats/hoodies for each family member. Nice to cuddle up in for campfires on cooler August nights. Close toed shoes are good for long walks on the beach. I hate sand getting wedged up in my toes while wearing flip flops. Easy slip on shoes are important for the kids so they aren't tempted to run around barefoot. And several types of bug dope and better yet a thermocell are essential. The skitters up here are terrible!

As for toiletries, I pack a small plastic laundry type tote (similar to what the college kids use for the showers) with my shampoos and soaps. It goes right into the showe with me and the holes allow the water to drain out. I put my non-shower creams and makeups in a separate zippered toiletry bag.

I just go through my normal morning routine in my head and make a list from there.
Pack a small suitcase and use a carry on/tote bag for make up toiletries, etc.
I never use a bag that can get wet--I just put my products in the shower where I'll be staying.

Don't forget O. pair of jeans and a hoodie/jacket for everyone.
