Im supposed to be heading to my friends sons first birthday party in a couple hours. I just took my sons temp cause he felt warm and it was 101.5. He is teething and we had been outside and it is a pretty warm and humid day . Could those things gave him his temp or is it probably the start of something? should we stay home to be sure we dont "share our germs" ?

What can I do next?

Stay home. Call the friend and let her know. She'll miss you but definitely will not want to risk the sharing of any type of bug.

she'll thank you for not getting her kids sick. call and apologize, and tell her your child is running a fever. teething does not cause a fever higher than 100F

alot of babies run a slight temp when teething. does he seem more tired than normal. Is he eating? if the temp is the only thing wrong is pry teething. try giving him some tylenol

According to my pediatrician teething doesn't cause temps over 100. If you rest inside for a bit and his temp doesn't go down, i'd give him a fever reducing med and call it a day.

go inside and check again in 15 minutes, but i would think 101.5 is higher than just being outside. also, teething is usually a very low fever. here is something i just pulled up

"Although teething may cause a slight rise in body temperature, it's probably not the cause if a child's temperature is higher than 100° F (37.8° C)."

If my son was running a temperature, I'd send my regrets and stay home with him. You can send the present along a bit later. There will be other birthdays and other parties.

if it was just due to a hot day at that temp ur son should be sweating. if he has a true fever then he would feel hot but no sweat. also teething brings about putting things in the mouth more often and therefore causes them to get more frequent viruses, bugs, or infections. so a temp when teething usually means something is probably coming on like a cold bug or something like that. i would say not to go, you also dont want to tire him out more so that if he is sick it will take a stronger and quicker hold on him.

He could be overheated. The teething could cause the temp. Or it could be something else, but probably not.

I would go inside and cool off. After awhile see if he is acting normal and check the temp again. You could give him some tylenol to bring down the fever. Unless he's showing any other signs of being sick, I don't think you need to stay home and miss the party.

Prepare your stuff to go and check his temperature 40 minutes prior to leaving. It it is not normal, stay home. He may just be teething, which is not germs.

Be careful about going if he has a temp. There is a nasty fever thing going around this summer. I think she would be much happier if you call and say he has a temp and you think it would be better not to come as not to get her kids sick as well. I wouldn't be too happy if someone brought a kid over with a temp not knowing if it's teething or something else.

B-day parties are fun but neither of you would enjoy being there if he is not feeling well. Take his temperature later on and see if it has gone up or down.

Teething usually doesn't cause a temp higher than 100. I'd play it safe and stay home.

Probably too late to respond but at most schools, daycares etc. children are not allowed in a setting with other children unless they've been fever free for 24 hours. I would err on the side of caution and stay home.
