Hi C.,
This may sound crazy, but try using hydrogen peroxide. I had a cat who was bit by a racoon on his paw, we put hydrogen peroxide on the wound and wrapped it with gauze. It worked great. Hope this helps.

The only cat my huby has let me keep, well it has been 4 years...is sick. Not a cold, but a bad wound on her leg. Many promises to have vet money have come and gone. So I took it upon myself to get a appointment..but then the way to get there goes out the door! So if you know of anything over the counter to use on a wound...someone also said to try to gause it. But my other prob is that she went from #1 cat in the house to mean cat out the door! With no provocing, she eventually attacked All members of the human family! Talking claw puncture wounds! So now I am stuck where i was, no vet to see her and give her the antibiotic to go in her food. Also her history is she is allergic to fleas/most flea medicines...only getting worse as she is outside/in our basement. Thank u

Hi C.~
I have to tell you that I'm more shocked at your husband than the cat! Does he always disrespect you like that? The cat could be very sick and NEEDS the vet. Some illnesses can pass from animals to ppl and if your cat's demeanor is changing that's a BIG red flag! Do you have a local animal aid or Humane Society? Call them! They will help you, but be honest about your dilemma and that you just have no way to get your cat in but it NEEDS help.
Now for some unsolicited advice about the hubby. Don't let him show your kids that you are less of a person than he is. My vote? Bring the cat in and show HIM the door!

Dear C.,
There is a magazine called, Foster & Smith and you can purchase animal supplies form them. See if you can find it online.
Secondly, on T.V. there is a company called, 1-800-pet-meds (I think) and you can also get stuff from them.
You save alot of money.
Hope this helps!

Hi C.,
I don't want to sound harsh but your cat is probably in pain which is the reason she is hurting other members of the family. It's cruel of you and your husband not to take her to the vet. If your husband doesn't want to take because of money he should just drop her off at a vet. My vet gets alot of animals on their doorsteps that they take care of and then adopt out. Not to mention why can't you find a way to get to a vet. Does your husband not let you drive? You should really get her to a vet. She is in constant pain.

Do you want to know what I'd do about the husband or the cat!?!
Your cat is probably in pain and that's why it's so mean. I am not sure if they sell anything over the counter to help animals. I guess I would try an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin (sp?).
Call a vet in the area and tell them you have no way of getting your cat there and see if they recommend anything for the cat’s wound. If he got it from another animal he could be very sick!
But, I wouldn’t leave an animal in pain like that.
I won’t tell you what I think you should do about your husband. But, he doesn’t sound like a very caring guy that he won’t let you help the only cat he LET you keep.
Pain can cause an animal to act out change their behavior. Think of how you would feel if you had an open infected wound on your body.
If you can't afford to take the cat to the vet call your local humane society. It's cruel to force your cat to suffer when there is someone who can help.
C.-It sounds like kitty has been pretty uncomfortable for some time without success of home treatment. It's difficult to determine what treatment kitty should get without seeing what sounds like a pretty serious wound that could be infected. Also with fleas, cats clean themselves and ingest the fleas which causes them to get worms, which causes other serious health issues if not treated.
You may want to contact your local Humane Society in Monroe ###-###-#### and ask for advice and/or see if assistance is available.
You need to do what's best for kitty. Worse case scenerio, you surrender kitty the Humane Society where she can get vet treatment, especially if you are concerned about her. Sounds like your heart is in the right place, but you may have to make some difficult decisions. Hope it works out for the best for kitty and you.
