G.T.
It probably has a lot to do with what you did and what you ate yesterday.
Talk to the doc tho, it is a serious thing.
I woke up this morning and my legs and feet are swollen...not like the time I was pregnant and they literally "swished" - but swollen - NOT RED - from the knee down?
Hands and fingers are fine...only the bottom half of my legs...I do have them propped up now...
Any ideas?
Thanks Christy. I will call and see if they are open. I drink water and cranberry juice....I was on my feet a lot yesterday in the garage but that's normal....blood pressure is fine...and i'm only 45...I don't think that's old! YIKES!!!
My doctor called back - after keeping my legs propped up the swelling went down. I am calling in the AM for an appointment to see what's up though.
Yes, thanks Dawn - drinking water and cranberry juice...

This is called "edema" and it can be a serious concern, based on the etiology (reason it arose) of the condition. I advise that you contact your medical provider and also read this: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003104.htm
Best of luck!
I would be concerned about plaque building up in your veins that could cause blood flow problems. Please call you Dr and have it checked.
PS: you are not old, but our bodies change with age.
Heart problem, if this has happened overnight, you should see a doctor, the cause could be either your heart not pumping efficiently to take the fluid back to the heart, or your lymphatic systems not functioning properly. Either is not good.
Allergic reaction?
Last time my husband got stung by a bee (on his hand), his arm swelled from the elbow down till his skin was tight.
He looked like Popeye but it scared me something awful.
He had no trouble breathing so we just waited for it to go away on it's own.
It took several days.
But it was only the arm that was stung - it wasn't both.
Any possible spider bites from the garage?
If it's allergic, a Benedaryl might help get the swelling under control.
The only other thing I can think of is a circulation problem causing fluid build up in lower extremities but it's weird that you would have it first thing in the morning.
Usually it would be an end of a day thing and laying down would help the swelling to go away.
Hope it gets better soon!
That makes me think lymph or circulation problems. Both of which can be serious. I would go see a doctor ASAP.
Are the nail beds of your toenails blue? Push down on one; it should briefly turn white, then regain it's normal color.
Did you eat anything with a lot of salt in it? I had a reaction like this one time, it was crazy hot and my girlfriend and I had a margarita and some nachos on a patio... we BOTH had our feet swell within minutes. After a glass of ice water and keeping our feet elevated, we were okay.
Also, alternate keeping them elevated and walking to keep the blood pumping, maybe try jogging in place for a second.
Keep me posted and feel better!! :)
My mom who is 88 sometimes retains water which results in swollen feet. Her doctor gives her diuretics which make her pee more to get rid of fluids. It could also be something with your circulation or lymph system - the blood vessels and lymph system have little one-way-valves that help the fluids move back against gravity. Sometimes those are blocked. I would call the nurse at your doctor's office for advice, because for some things massage is good and for other things it is bad, etc. Any advice here is just anecdotal, I would seek a medical opinion.
Sounds like water retention. Edema. Like someone already said - can be caused by many factors. Heart, kidneys, endocrine problems... Is it pitting? Like if you push on it does your finger leave an impression that doesn't go away? The fact that you had that when you were pregnant - makes me think that you have something that never was investigated quite thoroughly before.
I uncovered that I had a genetic abnormality with my heart and lungs while I was pregnant (I had severe edema and shortness of breath) and just refused to dismiss all that as pregnancy related stuff and sought out a cardiologist who did found out what was wrong with me. You are saying that you are only 45 - not that old to have edema in the morning. I would see a doctor. Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
Many health issues first show up by swelling of the legs. Please give a call to your doc and ask them if it's anything to be concerned about.
I get this all the time and sometimes I know it's salt related, sometimes I don't think it is. I don't think I'll ever know.
Is it possible it is salt related? I would be concerned since it is just your lower extremities.
If after laying down for 20 minutes with your legs propped above your heart and it doesn't go away - contact your doctor.
I agree that maybe you should have a more thorough exam to find out what is going on since this happened while you were pregnant.
Go to the doctor! I think some of the causes like this could be serious (like diabetes).

Too much salt yesterday? That's what it does to me.
