What Was I thinking...two Piece Jacket

So I got my son a jacket last summer during clearance time. Anyhow is is a two piece jacket where they zip together. Ohh what a hassle. The inner sleaves just keep comming out of the outer ones. They do have one button to keep them together but it doesn't really do any good. Do you have any ideas, found something that has worked well. I am certain I wont be buying one of these jackets again!

What can I do next?

we had the same issue - no good solution - just teach him how to poke the sleeve back in after he takes it off or teach him to hold the cuff with his opposite hand while he pulls his arm out. Tell him - "look at this cool trick I just learned! makes it so much easier when it's time to go outside". It's right next to the lesson about putting mittens in the pockets!

In the scheme of things it's an annoyance and not awful. This is how we learn about what not to buy next year.

My sons both have one like that, but we do not have any trouble with it. If the inner sleeve comes out we just push it back through. No big deal really.

The velcro would work, but will only last so long (velcro gets gunked up pretty quickly and stops working). What about sewing another button on and makng a new hole for it to fit in to on the other side...though you might have to reinforce the hole you make so it doesn't come unraveled. Or, maybe even stitch in some snap buttons. I would check with a store like JoAnn fabrics....they're likely to have some kind of solution.

We've always had good luck, with my son's two piece jacket. His inner layer zipped in, though.

I saw some nice one piece jackets, at Old Navy. The had them for little ones, all the way up to boys sizes. They were affordable, too.

I got one from someone who's child grew out of it. I hate, my middle daughter's sleeves kept coming out but she would wear it, my youngest wore it once and refuses to wear it again.

Safety pins? Or use needle and thread and sew those suckers together.

Yes, you could certainly stitch it if you don't want to take them apart. If you do want the conveince of the two jackets you could try sewing some velcro into the cuffs of the heavier jacket. I am assuming the inner layer is fleece?? If so the fleece will stick right to the rough side of velcro and maybe it would do better than just one little snap? I would do the entire circumfrence of the sleeve/cuff with the velcro so it's as sturdy as possible.

I get the down jackets at REI (their brand) and love them. I hated the one that zipped inside the other because it seemed to irritate my sons face.

Oh I LOVE our 3-in-1 jackets! Same problem with the sleeves, but it's worth it! Try getting either a better set of snaps or some GOOD velcro pieces from your local fabric shop. Even if you don't sew, you can probably hand stitch them on tighter than the originals! Should take just a couple minutes of your time (just make sure they are lined up right).

Had one last year. My daughter hated it! And I hated it after the button thing broke to keep the sleeve inside the coat. I will never get my daughter one again...at least at her young age.

Oh and sorry, no advice, but just understanding what your going through. :)

Ran into the same problem. However, since we're in California, I just turned it into two jackets. We didn't really need the extra heaviness of two coats anyway. In your location, I'm sure you need the layers. One thought is to perhaps try stitching the two layers together? If you're not a great sewer, I bet a tailor could do this pretty quickly in key spots on the coat.

Really? I bought my twins these type jackets a few years ago and now its time to get some new ones and I went for the same type -I love them! We never really had an issue with the sleeves though-maybe its just the way yours is made or something. I think I bought these last ones from Sears or JcPenny or something. Anyways its all I buy because I love them so much. They are so warm and like the fact they can have a "lighter" jacket if need be. In Georgia in the morning it could be cold then mid-day be up in the 70's??? Go figure.
My suggestion to fix it though is pretty much the same as the other responders to take a few minutes of your time and place more buttons on the sleeve or either sew them. Go to your local Joanne's, Michael's, or any other local fabric store-maybe the clerk could offer a suggestion. I wouldn't do velcro only because they get all gunky over time and with kids even faster. You would have to be replacing them all the time which would be even more frustrating to me. Good luck!

My son also has one of these coats and I hate it. He also hates it. We will be buying a new coat this winter when it comes time to him having to have a new one. We keep the pieces seperate for now since the inner liner is actually pretty warm he is just wearing that for now.
