Granny panties...as unflattering as they are, I now know why they make them. You will want something that comes up higher than the incision. Then, just the normal stuff to be comfy. Good luck and congrats :)

All I brought were my nursing PJs and a pair of loose (drawstring - or maybe they were elastic) sweatpants to go home in. I had no issues. Slip on shoes help too b/c of the bending over to tie. you'll also want to buy a few pairs of granny undies so that the elastic hits ABOVE the scar.
Not sure what your friends point was re: scaring your other child??!!! Why would being in PJ's upset her??! odd.
Pack what you normally would. I didn't pack anything different. And, there's nothing scary to a child seeing you wear hospital clothes when they come to visit. So, I definitely wouldn't worry about that. Though, I did have fun wearing my own clothes to make it more comfy! I brought my own nightgown/robe and slippers. Then normal toiletry items and camera and stuff like that.
And, this is off topic for what you're asking, but I thought I'd add it in case it helped at all. My c-section was with my 4th baby because I had a complete placenta previa. My first three were vaginal births. The day of the c-section was pretty painful (no more so than my other three births, though). But after that, the recovery was amazingly more easy for me, which was very surprising! I do have rough recoveries from my vaginal births (they are even natural, but I have long pushing and/or big babies...biggest being 10 lbs 11 oz, and I'm almost 5ft 4in, 117 lbs post-baby, and I think those things make for harder recovery). 24 hours after I'd had the baby, I was up on my feet, able to walk and shower - something I could barely do after my other births. I kept waiting to feel awful from the c-section, and it didn't happen. It was tender, but the pain was sooooo much less. I'm sure the pain meds worked' wonders for me too:-)
Just mentioning because I had been told how much harder a c-section was to recover from, and it was so opposite for me. The c-section was like a dream to recover from comparatively (and I'd always been a person who wanted to avoid a c-section at all cost). It's almost like I got the natural birth recovery, which I hear so many women comments on, with my c-section...hehe. I've since met other women who confess that is the truth for them too with their c-sections. I hope yours is like that as well, since I know other women experience something completely different! Staying up on your meds is super important too. I hope you love your birth! My c-section was a wonderful experience, as were my natural births:-)
I don't think you need to pack anything special for having a c-section...I've had two. I would suggest packing the most comfortable things you can, though...
...and please don't worry what you're wearing when your daughter comes to visit. She will not care what you are wearing, so don't let someone make you worry about that. She won't even see your clothes...she'll just see you and her beautiful new sibling!! :)
Since you know ahead of time you are so lucky! Take your most comfortable PJ's one that won't be on your incision. and some very easy slide on shoes, for when you get to walk. Also like everyone else has stated, when you have a c-section they don't put you in alien clothing your 2 year old should not be upset about you wearing a nightgown!
I had 3 c-sections, and for the first one I over packed, and most of the stuff I never even used. Boppy pillow for breastfeeding. I brought little travel sizes of shampoo, soap, and toothpaste. Go buy some cheap granny panties, you will probably get blood on them. Socks, and something comfortable to wear on the way home. I didn't bring any other clothes, it was a lot more comfortable for me to just stay in the hospital gowns, plus if you have lots of bleeding your clothes wont get ruined. I'm not sure why a hospital gown would upset your 2 yr old.
My bag is packed and ready! I went out and bought some underwear that pretty much goes up to my boobs (mainly to wear home) because my low underwear hit right where my incision is. But most of the time, you will be wearing those super hot mesh panties the hospital gives you. Nightgowns are a good idea, they wont bother your incision, but make sure you have something to wear home that wont bother it, like some extra stretchy pants you can hike over your incision. Good luck! Congrats!
Boppy Pillow!!! I have had 3 c-sections.With my first I did not nurse or use a boppy pillow, with the other two I did.I loved the boppy pillow and would never go to the hospital to have a c-section without it!It's hard to describe really well on here but basically it was really nice for nursing and just for keeping across my incision area!
I didn't bring any clothes the first time, but I think I'm going to bring some nursing tanks. I was very comfortable just being in the hospital gowns. I've never heard anything about regular clothes, and I know I won't be wearing anything special when my 2 year old boys come to visit me. Bring shower essentials. Since your stay is longer and you're in bed most of the time, you'll be craving the shower once you're able. I brought a laptop which really helped pass the time.
After a c-section, you will be pretty heavily sedated and exhausted. The nurses will be coming in to "check you", change your umm..."padding" and check the catheter throughout the first 24 hours so you will need to be in your hospital gown and no "undies".
I packed 2 nightgowns and 5 pairs of grannies... wore none of them b/c I was in pain, nursing and didn't really care what happened to my undies. Wear the mesh ones they give you and make sure to ask for a box of them to take home b/c you will be wearing them and throwing them out daily. Wear the hospital gown b/c moving, bending and stretching will hurt. I wore robe over the gown when people (including my young nieces) came to visit.
Pack a very loose dress to wear home (nothing with a waistband).
Do make sure to have underwear that goes up higher so that it does not rest on your incision. You probably won't wear it in the hospital, but will want to have it while you recover at home.
Pack your 3 nightgown robe/nursing sets and anything you would pack for your c-section. I was in the hospital for 2 days before they did a c-section and had all my shower gear and going home comfy clothes. Bring the boppy pillow. The morning after your c-section standing up will feel horrid.. I had 2 nurses helping me walk so I could pee. I took a shower afterwards and loved the fact they had a shower you could walk in. Tell your Significant other to bring you some real dern food lmao. I had the normal stuff everyone brings, baby clothes, diapers, carseat, etc. I doubt your 2 year old will be upset because your in your hospital dress.
I was so dern sore for a week and a half after that if I lapsed in the pain killers or when I woke up it hurt so much. Every person is different though.
I only brought nursing pj sets and one outfit to go home in. (nothing fancy - very loose fitting sweats). Bring a robe for the shower, and shower slippers, towel etc. Good luck!
