What should I keep in my trunk in a bin for emergencies or for my child?
What do you keep?
He's young and doesn't play sports yet so.....?
Kleenex? Non-perishable snacks? (And if snacks...what kind? He's a toddler.)
Juice boxes?
What?
I do keep sand toys in there for the park but what else?

What can I do next?

Oh gosh....I keep toys, a change of clothes, a light jacket, extra diapers, cup, plate, bowl, spoon, wipes, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, hat, books, granola bar, individual pack of goldfish, bottle of water, chapstick, swiss army knife, first aid kit, flashlight, shovel, blanket, potty, booster seat, stroller.

A lot of it I switch out seasonally or every month or so. I've also got 3 kids ages 5 months, 3 years and 4.5 years so there's a LOT of stuff I end up packing around! LOL

I always have kept a tube of neosporin and a box of various sized bandaids. Also, it never hurts to keep an old clean towel on hand. Many uses for one of those: spread it out to sit on on hot or scratchy surfaces; wipe up spills; cover a car seat that has been thrown up on while you were away from home; dry a child who got wet unexpectedly in a friend's sprinkler or by a water-gun at a party; etc.

Maybe a couple of dollars, in case I need to buy a bottle of water or drink/snack from a vending machine somewhere - like an unexpected trip to the ER?

I like the Gerber foods. They are wrapped individually and they are good (I eat the breakfast bars too!) and stay fresh for awhile. I would go with water instead of juice boxes. If you are stuck in your car, you don't want a hyped up toddler. tissues, wipes, extra diapers, are great.
My son is into Thomas so there would be thomas toys and books. Other books too, not just Thomas.

First of all... Always keep jumper cables in your car. Along with a crowbar (can be used as a weapon - you don't know who will come along while you're waiting for a tow, etc), 2 gal gas can (not with fuel in it... that's a hazard), flashlight, a pair of pantyhose (can be used as a temporary belt for your car as well as a hose repair), and maybe a couple of flares.

As for the little one as well as yourself... Maybe an extra outfit (for your son), extra diapers/wipes (wipes come in handy for you too), granola bars, canned fruit, bottled water, maybe some Gatorade in extremely warm weather, and just about any pre-packaged or canned snacks last a long time.

I always have Kleenex or cloth diapers (for the same reason) in my car. And I always have a blanket in my car, but I live in MI... It gets downright cold and I don't really want to freeze to death in my car. But you live in CA... I don't think you'll have to worry about that as much as dehydration.

I keep:

- basic first aid supplies - neosporin, bandaids
- kleenex
- baby wipes (you always need these!)
- books for them to read in the car
- snacks that aren't affected by heat and aren't too terribly messy (banana chips, dried cranberries, bag of veggie sticks or other somewhat healthy savory snack that can stave off a low blood sugar meltdown)
- extra change of clothes
- I just bring their drinks fresh every day (I have a cool pack so I just put drinks in there for each of them - no juice boxes, too messy for the car!)
- sunglasses for the kids
- blanket for the park that I wash about once a week or whenever it gets dirty at the park

a small blanket is always in our car. A trash bag is good for snack spills, dirty diapers, or dirty kleenex. Set of extra clothes. Baby wipes.

i only kept a spare outfit that is seasonally appropriate, if they were still in diapers i would keep about 3 and some wipes. i still keep wipes also in the glove compartment. i didn't keep food in the car but every time i would go out i would bring a cup (sippy cup) of something, either water or juice, and bring gummies or something like cheerios or goldfish. if it's hot, then some juice boxes and stuff can only be in a certain temp or they will spoil. same goes for snacks.

I have kleenex and mini first aid in my center console.

In the middle with the boys there is:
dual dvd player and movies
blanket
mini backpack with quiet toys for Church/Dr. office
books

In the cargo:
bag with extra outfit, jacket/sweatshirt, and socks for each
umbrella stroller
paper towels
baby wipes
grocery bags for trash

I still have to carry a diaper bag, so there are always snacks and sippy in there.

Thanks for asking this question because it has not occurred to me to pack a "just in case" bag. I know I will get right on it! Sunscreen and/or a hat would be a good thing to put in. Water, extra sippy cups, straws.

We keep water bottles, juice boxes, 2-3 changes of clothes for the season we are in, first aid kit, extra socks and shoes, diapers or pull ups just in case of sudden runny diarrhea, a small trash can with walmart sacks to line it in case of sudden tummy upset, also a variety of small toys suitable for the park, friends house, or sitting in the car in case of break down. Things to stay busy with are pretty important due to kids short attention spans. If you broke down he'd be bored in minutes and need the distractions.

We always have a bag or two of dry cereal too. It is a bit messy but is easily vacuumed up and easy to eat.

When I used to travel with my baby I was always scared that I might break down and be stuck with my baby on the side of the road. So here's what I kept
Specifically for my child...
blanket, extra clothes (including extra pair of socks), extra diaper, travel wipes, and a few super small toys.
In general....
First aid kit, water, dry foods (granola bars, dry oatmeal packets, peanutbutter crackers, etc), flashlight, jumper cables, a golf club (it was cheaper then a baseball bat).
Inside my car/purse.....
I always make sure I have my phone charger, a pocket knife (within legal limit), my zippo lighter, a spare $20.00 in the glove box, a pen and notepad.
People laugh at that golf club but whatever works right? lol.
