What to Get for a "Green" Mom to Be?

I am throwing a baby shower for a friend who has recently become very "green" and natural. She lives on a farm in Colorado, but is coming back to Michigan for the shower. She has registered for a few things at Babies R Us, and a website called freshandgreen.com, but those are for things like $25 onesies, or a $300 bouncy seat, all of which I find extremely expensive, especially since I am already throwing her a shower. Does anyone have any recommendations other than a gift card?

What can I do next?

There's a store called "Green Baby" in Rochester, MI (downtown next to Subway). I haven't been in there, but I think it looks pretty cute. Good Luck!

Hi B.! I just threw a shower for my neighbor, and made her a diaper cake! You can use cloth (which look the best anyway) and you roll them up, add ribbons and stuff and voila! It looked so darn cute, and was a funtcional gift. I also made a "clothesline" of onesies and bibs-awesome decorations and a gift as well! No waste! I do not think it will be possible for her to be 100% green unless she has a lot of $, so she will still need onesies and stuff! Other cheap gift ideas are that I gave her a few packs of kid/baby hangers-I use them, and they are not expensive, but cute! I also hung a few onesies around where we had the shower. She will at least appreciate you not wasting with all sorts of paper decos! Good luck, and have fun!

A gift certificate for pictures is always a good idea.

You could get her some shampoo or lotion. Target sells California Baby, which is good. Just get the unscented stuff (in case she is really picky). Whole foods has a whole section of less-toxic items you could choose from as well.

Walmart now sells some organic baby clothing you might want to check out.

Under the Nile Organic Wash Clothes – great as a chew toy and for teething (give it too them wet/cold):

Under the Nile small “stuff animals” (this one and they have many others) – great for when they are little. Chew toy, toy, all around – good.

miYim stuff animal: Great for a “lovey” – each of my boys has 1 and they have slept with them since they were old enough. They still love them - a GREAT buy.

I guess it would depend on if she's driving or flying. You don't want to get her a large gift if she's flying. That's really a difficult one but I'm sure she realizes how expensive her registry is and simply purchase what you can easily afford. These are tough times for everyone. It's really really nice of you to give her this shower. Have fun!

How about a gift basket of baby soap's and lotion's from Terressentials? http://www.terressentials.com/babycare.html
All of their products are USDA certified and truly "green". no chemicals etc. I use em and love em.
There is also an organic clothing company I think they are in Ann Arbor or Ypsi, you can order online and they have onsie's and cute clothing too, a bit pricey like you said, but hey $22 for a cute onsie (just one) isn't so bad. http://www.maggiesorganics.com.
I also use cleaning and laundry products by Seventh Generation and Biokleen, that way they don't leave chemicals on the surfaces or in the air or on our clothes. Maybe you can get a cleaning gift set?
Good luck.

A tree to plant or a gift cert to a local garden center so she can get a tree - mark the card "out of little acorns mighty oaks grow". She and the child can have a memory and gift that last a lifetime and it could not be greener...

There are many baby baths and lotions that are organic, without synthetics. You can get an assortment at a health food store, some brands might be at Target, but read the labels carefully, they can be deceiving. It would be cute to get some for Mama also, with an organic washcloth.
