Yeah its that time of year and this question will be asked a million times over. What do I get my SO?
He buys what he wants and refuses tools because "I can just borrow from dad, we don't have the space right now". Here is the run down on him and what he likes. He loves to farm, hunt, fish, we watch movies and we refuse to get cable. I was thinking that Cabela's has a nice bed set in mossy oak camo but that is only one thing and rather exensive. He is buying himself a new .17 HMR. What do I do. I need advice.
As for fishing, I am putting my foot down to NO MORE! we have seriously 11 tackleboxes that dont like to shut and the wall of our garage is lined with fishing polls that don't get used. He got an Ice shack last year that would finally fit us both along with a few more leurs.
Farming, He loves Red tractors and Green combines. But he doesn't really like the stuff around the house.
Movies we usually get as a couple and just whatever fits the mood.

ETA- doing things on the house is a great idea however right now we are in reconstruct mode as it is.
As for the hunting stuff. Those are some things I had not thought of. We do have a gun case in the basement. a must in Iowa.
Time I know he wants but its more fighting his schedule right now than anything. And with the new one on the way his time off is getting stretched thin. Fortunately his job is a family job and is willing for time off without pay when Paid time off runs out.
O and we dont drink. Like maybe once a month or longer. And me not at all right now. Although I do have the constant hangover feeling!:)
For the holidays we will usually do something around the house. Sounds like you share a home, so are there any home improvement projects that have been bugging you both that you'd like to get fixed.....
How about a nice upright toolbox on wheels for the garage to house his
tools if he doesn't have one already.
A hunting magazine subscription.
Fishing magazine.
Does he have his fishing license for the year?
A good ice chest to take hunting/fishing w/him.
Wader boots?
Does he have a good thermal sleeping bag to keep him warm?
Camo pants w/cargo pockets.
Camo or Orange hunting knit caps.
Gun case?
Ramps to drive his car up on if he has to work on the car or do an oil
change.
A good flashlight (Ryobi) for hunting/camping.
Beer of the month subscription (delivered to your house every month).
Personally, I wouldn't want a camp bed set!
What about an experience or activity?
Doesn't take up any room & great memories.
Hunting or fishing trip accommodations for him & a buddy would be great!
What about things like a dinner date? You give him a coupon, arrange the sitter, and take HIM out do dinner at somewhere he likes to go but doesn't go often? For my DH's birthday - I took the day off. He wants time more than anything else.
why not get the bed set? if he would love it why not? Also, does he need new hunting clothing or accessories? Also, you don't have cable. Do you have a movie collection? What's his favorite movie or series? Does he have it already? If not, look at buying him some DVD's. What's his favorite restaurant?
The only thing I can think of if he's a hunter is ammo. Men can never have enough of that.
I arrange for a sitter, then I take my husband to a hotel by the lake for dinner, overnight, and breakfast.
My gift recommendation to everyone is a custom made iPhone case from uncommon goods. they are $40 and you could put a picture of your kids on it or him with his favorite hunting trophy, etc. Good luck!
First off, I would probably clean out "his area" of the basement/garage/both. Sort things out into "keeping" and "not keeping." Anything uselessly redundant goes to the "not keeping" box.
Let him choose the 2 tackle boxes that are his favorites. Let him fill them with the best quality and favorite fishing gear that will fit into them. Sell the rest or pack it all up into one large box and put it away in the attic or somewhere else out of the way so that he can go to it for spare parts.
Do the same with the rest of the stuff he has.
Throw away ANYTHING that's broken. If he hasn't used it in more than two years and likely won't ever use it, and it has no value, throw it away. Recycle what you can.
Basically, you'll be condensing and almost starting from scratch AND cleaning things up in the process. Maybe you can set up a nice Tool Bench Work Area for him to admire his tools and fishing gear since it will all be newly nice and neat and easily accessible.
Once you have everything tossed out, sold, and put away duplicates, keep an inventory list of what he has at his Man Space and an inventory of what's in his Duplicates Box. That way he won't keep over-buying.
If he doesn't have a Man Space/Tool Bench already, get him one and set it up really nicely. A space to put his stuff would be a great gift.
How about buying him a marriage license and a date at the county courthouse?
Sounds like he needs fewer toys anyway.
