What to Feed an Almost 1 Year Old

My daughter is turning 1 next week. (Yeah! Although it is frightening how quickly time flies!) She has recently decided that she will not touch any food that comes from a jar. That is fine, but I am not sure what to give her. She will eat: banana chunks, applesauce (sometimes), cut up cheese, scrambled egg yolk, baby yogurt, ground turkey (sometimes), cut up grapes, cut up cereal bars (todder kind), and some puffs. We have been feeding her only organic and do not like the chemicals that are added to the Gerber Graduates, but I am not sure what to give her. Are we feeding her enough? She is still breast feeding and sometimes skips meals and will only nurse/take a bottle. I want her to get a really good variety of food, but we seem to be stuck with these foods. Please help me out!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Things have been going smoothly. We seem to have a system in place and she is eating different, but she does do something strange. When she first eats a food, she gobbles it and then won't try it again. I am also having trouble getting her to eat veggies.

My second son did the same thing at 10mo and he didn't have any teeth at the time! These are the things I give him: really well cooked noodles (the wagon wheels are really easy to pick up) with a little butter, avacado (his favorite now and high in healthy fat), chop a potato into bite size pieces boil really well and add a little butter and parmesan cheese, broccoli with the stems cut all the way off, shred up some lunch meat, pancakes, french toast. I also find that canned veggies and fruits like carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, peaches and pears are softer than cooking fresh or frozen (esp. if they don't have their molars yet).

you can dump pretty much anything into a food processor and get it small enough for her to eat. Other than that recommendation, we do a lot of over cooked macaroni, blueberries (I squish them between my fingers first), cantaloupe (he likes to use his little teeth on the whole thing, but I usually take a vegetable peeler to it to get it thin enough then just break up the pieces), mush up peaches out of the jar.
I know a lot of people who put pretty much everything they eat (before salting) in a food processor or blender and give it to their toddlers.

Try pasta, soups, grilled cheese, quesadillas, pizza, anything you eat. We find it sometimes takes a few tries to get my daughter to like something new. Best of luck, it is fun trying new foods and seeing what your little one likes!

My daughter will be 1 in a few weeks too. She will still take the jars of food, but she does like to feed herself as well. She is not too crazy about fruits, but she really likes veggies and meats. Her favorite thing is peas. I pretty much just give her what we are eating, and just either cut it or break it up. She also loves any kind of melon and chicken. She even ate some mushrooms the other day. I have never bothered putting her food in a food processor. I find that breaking it into little bits with my fingers works best.

With my son, we would cut up almost everything that we were eating. He loved pasta, pizza, pancakes and anything he could dip. Their gums are stronger than you think. And eating it off my plate made it extra special. Make a lot of mmmhhh noices when you eat it and he will want to try it to.

I agree with Donna. I also prefer organic and mailny vegetarian diet. From the time that all 3 were old enough to start "regular" food, they had cut up version of whatever I was having, within limits. Although my dd has always like jalapenos, she had one accidently and loves them. All of were BF until about a year and even now my dd rarely eats much dinner, but I also offer snacks all day long. I make smoothies for desert sometimes and add stuff for her.
