depends on how bad it is. if it is very bad then wait a day for the brat diet and just keep hydrated with all the things Lori M. suggested. If fever is involved I would call the doctor.

Dairy is ok in small doese but I'd try and lay off if possible.
cheese and bananas are good as they will help bind it
rice is ok, lots of fluids if can't hold dwn water u can try iceblocks.
Hydralite is excellent it's made for younger ones Or adults it comes as a liquid of iceblock form can purchase from pharmacy or chemist.

Hi Kerry:

Please consider another option, natural wellness. There are many safe and gentle wellness options that can assist the diarrhea. Bananas are high in sugar, which may constipate him and lower his immune system. It may be counterproductive.

Let me know if my office can assist you. Visit the website and see if any options interest you.

My best,

Also, watch for dehydration. Drink water, gatorade, or pedia lite if needed.

I have heard that pear juice will help. Not the pears, just the juice. And jello to help keep up with liquids needed. Good Luck

Ripe (yellow)... I never had pear juice/ pears at the hospital for myself or my son~ so I personally would not go there. Stick to what your pediatrician told you (if you have spoken to them).

Make sure there is hydration occuring for the body as diarrhea can/ does dehydrate fast. Water should be fine, but preferable an electrolyte-type drink.

ripe. My dr also recommended things like jello juice (jello before it sets) and jello since the pectin jells things -- literally -- and helps stop them up. The other things she recommended was chicken nuggets and fries. I was kinda blown away. Really? But yes, they seem to work. They had a similar effect as the jello believe it or not. I think if he had nauseau, it would be different though. Also, she said any kind of liquid you can get in them -- slurpees, popsicles, etc -- anything they want to get them hydrated was a good idea since you can go a lot longer without food than you can without water.

Good luck. I know taking cre of a sick child with diarreah is no fun. Wash your hands extra thoroughly. :)
