What to Do with My Business?

I recently started a Tastefully Simple business (in September). I love the products I sell, but I have not been able to branch out beyond my church crowd. I would love to continue, but I don't know what else to do. I have called several people who attended other parties, but nobody seems interested in hosting a party. I can't stock up on new stuff for the Spring/Summer line because I haven't been making any money to do so. I'm afraid if I throw in the towel now, my husband will be totally against me doing anything like this in the future. Again, I LOVE their products and the parties, but I haven't made any money since December. Should I stick with it and hope I get more parties booked soon, or should I throw in the towel?

What can I do next?

Have you ever thought about a company that does not require parties. I love tastefully simple too but one of the worst things is having to beg people to have a party. I am doing this clinical skincare direct sales company that does not require parties they are more focused on building a team. Does it benefit you to build a team with tastefully simple? Do you have a downline? If you have a downline you should stick with it if you are getting paid on them. I started doing my thing in August and have about 20 people in my downline that I get paid on. All I have to do is invest $100 a month to get paid on my downline. I can even sell that $100 worth of product and have to pay nothing a month to get paid on my downline. I think the whole party mentality with direct selling is partying people out. People can only host so many parties a year before their friends are just sick of coming! I think that is why my company went in the other direction! I do not ever want to tell anyone to quit doing what they love but if you are getting too stressed out you may want to consider! Good luck and you will succeed at the right opportunity!!

Hi S. ~ I wasn't going to respond, but after reading that first reply you got and hearing how negative it was I felt like I NEEDED to respond. I have been in the direct sales business for a little over a year. My advice is to NOT give up! Everything takes time. This is a REAL business and with any business it takes work. Keep working at it. Don't get discouraged, I know it is easy to do...I have been their and I understand, but trust me the taste of success is sweet and their is nothing like watching your hard work pay off.

I honestly believe in direct sales businesses. Since getting involved with one I make it a priority to find good, honest, dependable consultants and become a regular customer because I know it supports other moms and family's and that to me is important.

So, work at it a little everyday, do what you say when you say you'll do it, be honest and most importantly be patient. If you want to chat you can send me a message :)

Hi S.,

I am sorry that you are having a rough time booking parties. Do you have a local Moms group that you can join? I know that we have Way to Grow playgroups and I have found it is a great way to get out and meet some new people. It might be the season, people are doing taxes and still trying to pay off Christmas.

I have a home based business where I don't have to do any parties, I don't have any inventory, no billings and no deliveries! I still get to talk to people, which I love and I am able to earn a reliable income.

Hi S.,

I was wondering how things turned out? Are you still doing Tastefully Simple? I love the products too. I've only been to one party though and it was quite a few years ago.

Good Luck!

Have you tried to read up on how to expand? I bought an e-book from www.partysecretsrevealed.com that gave me a lot of useful information for expanding and selling. Hope that it helps.

Hi S.,

First of all...I love Tastefully Simple and I think it is a great product. Have you tried networking? I used to sell Avon and I would get together with other women that sold different products to hold open houses. Find a place that you can get maybe 10 or so different vendors into to set up tables (we did one at my house in the summer and did it in my garage and driveway). Each vendor is responsible for bringing a dish of goodies and we had drinks available. We made up an invitation and each vendor sent it out to all of their clients and everyone they knew. During the open house we sold raffle tickets for a basket and some individual raffle prizes. Each vendor donated one individual raffle prize and one thing to put in a large basket for a grand prize. The money from the raffle tickets was divides amongst the vendors to cover any of their cost for participating in the open house. I also did a drawing at my table. I had an information sheet (1/4 sheet of paper) to fill out and enter into a prize. Ask for their phone number, address and email address. This helped create a new contact list for me. Start asking around...I'm sure you know some other women selling other products out there...

Have Fun!!

Hello S.! I also have a home business and I have to say that if you love the business and have a passion for it, do not give up! As in any business, it takes time to build. I would say that you should really give it your all for at least 1 year before you make any decisions on quitting. I have lots of business ideas, if you would like to contact me privately I would love to share them with you! ANGIE www.mywahmbiz.com

Have you put your business on here? That might generate some revenue..

Is there something you can do to host a class or something through a community ed to drum up outside business. A cooking class using products etc? I have a friend that does this with her scrapbooking.. teaches classes then drums up new clients that way.

Honestly, this is why I have never done one of the home based businesses. I have friends who have and I have thrown parties for them and they have booked off of that. But I hate to bombard family, friends and people I don't even know that well with booking parties. I feel that once you have exhausted family and friends, where do you go from there? Some Mom2Mom Sales let you rent tables to sell. You can host an open house at your home and invite everyone and anyone and even put flyers in peoples mailboxes in your subdivision. But being in a home base business is a hard sell. I only host home based parties every other year because I don't want family and friends to feel obligated 1: to come to the party and 2: to buy stuff that they might not even need.
This is JMHOP :)
Good Luck!

PS. I do love attending all of the parties though :)

S.,
I agree "Don't give up"! I own a retail business by myself and am really struggling right now with the economy as it is. I have 2 ideas that I hope will help:

1. The cooking class is a great idea. Check with middle schools and high schools for after school programs you can do, or at other churches, etc.

2. Expo's are excellent! For a small fee you can set up a booth and have a drawing, give a gift for booking a party etc. The local expo in my mid size community usually books me 25-30 appointments (for skin care and cosmetic consultations).

Hope this helps!!!!
