What to Do In/around Myrtle Beach, SC?

We are going to Myrtle Beach in a few weeks. There will be plenty of kids aged 1.5 - 14 and of course our plans include spending plenty of time at the pool or beach.
I don't know the areas at all and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions of what me could do on days that we are tired of the beach or wait out some bad weather? Are there any zoos, aquariums, nature preserves or activities like that around (we will have cars there, so driving short distances is not an issue).
Thanks a lot!

What can I do next?

The new boardwalk is open and very nice. There are several fishing piers that you can walk along or just fish to your hearts content. However, MB has taken a big hit in the housing arena. And the large brush fires last year didn't help. Many projects are half completed or in the case of NMB condos, not completed at all. Check bedbug registry also. There have been a number of reports about those critters. Housekeepers hired has also taken a hit since a story in the news about how they were getting bitten while cleaning rooms and no one knows how to eradicate the little buggers.
At the least, I would ask the hotel or condo owner if the mattresses are encased and try to avoid pet-friendly rooms. Broadway at the beach is always fun and Barefoot Landing has the alligator adventure. Good Luck!

There is a Ripley's Aquarium, shopping, last time I was there the 'carnival' was still up and running.(ferris wheel, roller coaster, etc.) They do have shows, but I don't think the little ones would like them unless they have added some comedy ones since I lived near there. Take board games or card games!
My dad has a house at Cape Hatterass and there was NOTHING to do there when we were teenagers unless you liked to fish. (I do, but don't like getting up at 5am to beat the tide)
We did puzzles, played Uno, board games, etc. No electronics were allowed (Dad always broke this rule himself. We would find him on his laptop all the time)

Boardwalk at the Beach (I think it's called?) is a MUST DO. All this boardwalks, built out over the water, tons of fun stores, and amusement park (not expensive), different activities and theme restaurants (a ton), aquarium, etc etc....we've been there twice and we LOVE it. You can spend all day there, pretty much...SOOO much fun. It's right in Myrtle Beach. Oh, and they have boardwalk style arcade games, you can feed the fish...oh gosh, I can't even list it all. Lots of fun. You can also rent neat strollers there for your little ones.

Alligator Adventure at Barefoot Landing is fun. Look for Hamburger Joe's near Ocean Creek there in NMB too.
