What's Your Favorite Excercise Video?

Hello everyone. I'm (like most moms) trying to lose my baby weight and have been able to drop 25 pounds, but I still would like to lose another 10-15 pounds. The problem is I'm getting really bored. I haven't lost (or gained) any weight in the last 4-5 weeks. I'm just not a motivated anymore. So I'm looking for new at home videos that are fun, not to hard and also not to long. What videos have you tried and loved, or even hated (it's good to know which ones to avoid!). I'm not looking for any particular type, just something that will get me moving and having fun again! Thanks to all!

I like the Yoga, Booty, Ballet set and the Dancing with the Stars workout. The DS dvd allows you to customize the workout, so you can make it as long or short as you need it to be. The YBB workout is awesome. The first time I did this one I was sore for a few days, but the results have been awesome.

If you have comcast, go to FitTV (Chanel 222) and there are workouts everyday! Plus there is a sports and exercise section on comcast that has saved workouts for you to try out. Everything from lo-impact aerobics to yoga. Some are only a couple of exercises for you to try or can be as long as 30 minutes. I have done everything from Cardioball to abdominals on these quickie saved exercise programs but at least I don't get bored from them.

I love my Dance Off the Inches videos. My favorite is the Sizzling Salsa, but the Hip Hop is also great. But go to Collagevideo.com. You don't have to buy your videos from there, but they have a HUGE selection of workout videos. They give you a detailed description of each video and they rate them all. They have their own panel that rates the videos and then the customers rate and review them also. It's a great source.

I like 10 minute solutions' Fat Blasting Dance Mix. It offers a bunch of 10 mintue dance workouts that you can do individually if you only have 10 minutes (like most moms!) or you can combine for a longer workout if you find you can.

It helped me with the last 10lbs and I love to dance so it didn't feel too much like a workout.

Hi there!
I know what you mean about getting bored with certain excersizes. I like doing the belly dancing, one or something not only to make me loose weight and enjoy it, but it also makes me feel sexy, and I have tried it in front of my husband for special times, for his eyes only. Carmen Electra's Areobic Striptease is pretty. I think that she has four or five DVD's, but I just got the first one just to try it out. The Goddess Workout Introduction to BELLYDANCE with Dolphina, was also pretty good. There are a couple of other Bellydance Dvd's as well out there. Dance with Lisa's Red Hot Salsa is also good. And this one is really old, but I really enjoyed and had lots of fun with Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies, 1,2 and 3. I also like Denise something. I forgot her last name, but she has many different types of DVD's out there. Good luck with losing weight, but more importantly, I hope that you enjoy doing it. I think that I shall take out my DVD's and try it out sometime myself.

Hey K.-

I LOVE Turbo Jam. It mixes dance, kickboxing, strength and core training all into one workout. It works abs, booty, legs, arms - you name it! I saw it initially on TV, and when I called to purchase it, upgraded my order so I now have 8 DVDs, weighted gloves, and two bands. I do it everyday while my son sleeps, and have even gotten my husband into it (who used to think these kinds of things were worthless). There is nutritional and program info included, so you can set up your week to fit the best situation for you. I highly recommend it!!!

Hi K.,
Have you heard of Denise Austin? She is so awesome! I lost all my post-baby weight and toned up incredibly thanks to this woman! She has tons of work-out videos on the market and even has some specifically designed for new moms trying to lose that last bit of stubborn pregnancy weight. I also worked out with her during my pregnancy, because she has exercise videos for expectant ladies too! She is even pregnant with her first daughter in this one, so it's easy to relate to her and she really becomes your friend. She is funny, down to earth and very motivating. I LOVE her!! She has also written several books and has exercise videos to do with your kids! She has her own workout show on lifetime in the A.M. I would advise you to check her out. She has a line of videos that are 10 minute--yes that's right-- only 10 minutes of hit the spot exercises. I still do these and love them. One is for your abs, one for your buns, one for arms, etc. I think she's fabulous! You can find alot of her videos in sporting goods stores, Target, Wal-mart, her books are in the exercise section in book stores. She also has a website. Have fun!

Hi K.!

I know you have gotten a million responses, but I wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. :) I get bored easily with videos, but found that I LOVE the Biggest Loser workouts and really felt the difference quickly. Also, Yoga Zone has some awesome yoga dvd's that give a great workout. The Biggest Loser is 30-45 minutes depending on how many segments you do- there are 3 trainers, each with their own segment. Then the Yoga Zone dvd's have 2 workouts, each 20 minutes long.

Good luck with your weightloss. I have 30 left to lose, so I know exactly where you are coming from.

Cheers!

I lost 78lbs after having my baby by using a combo of the videos there. You can read about it in my profile.
I really like to dance so Hip Hop Abs was fun and if I didnt have time for the whole workout I still felt proud of myslef for getting moving and 78lbs is deffinalty proof I lost weight(took me 1 year from giving birth to the 78lbs loss)
I HATED the 'walk off the pounds' vidoes!Thats just me though.I thought they were cheesy.
Also I dont know about you but Denise Austins' voice annoys me although she looks great for 40+ year old Mom so maybe worth a try if you can check the videos out from the library?!
Best of luck to you!

Hands down it would be" Callanetics" by Callan Pickney. I have lots of videos that I have used over the years. But if I really want to tone up... & rather quickly too.. I put on "Callanetics". My husband & several of my girlfriends feel the same way too. Callanetics is about 20 yrs old, can still be found in stores or online, & the exercises are not outdated.

You will feel like a million bucks within 2 wks & really start to notice a difference. It is deep-muscle exercise with small precise motions that activate your large muscles.

Maybe I will go put it on now. It's time for me to tend to my needs too!

I know this is late, but along with the lady who put on her list hip hop abs, the same place (beachbody.com) makes turbo jam (which I have), slim in six (my friend swears by), they have one for kids, one called P-90, etc. There are exercises for every workout level, and the people who are on the videos are REAL people- some slim, some still working on it, etc. Turbo Jam was created by a lady name Chalene who made Turbo Jam because she couldn't get rid of her baby weight, especially around the middle. So, for baby weight, or to kick your butt back in shape, I recommend turbo jam.

My favorite videos are the 8 Minute series. The 8 Minute Abs doesn't hurt, the exercises are easy, and the best part is that it only takes 8 minutes out of my time - don't have to dress in workout clothes or put my hair in a pony, just press play and get it over with! The Ab video is paired with an arm workout and there is a separate buns/leg workout that "kicks butt" but without really thinking that you're exercising. They can be found on Amazon for under $15 each! (my husband and daughter does them with me, so it's healthy for the whole family) Good luck - J.

Hi K.,
I am an excersize video junkie. As a mom it is the only way I have found to stay in shape consistently. I get up an hour before the family (I used to do this at nap time, but that has since ended) and it really gets my day started right. No more feeling guilty about not getting my workout in. Now, my most favorite workouts that have really given me results are The Bar Method and the Lotte Berk Method. These are not cardio but work to make your muscles more dense, and dense muscles burn fat. You will be suprised how nice your butt looks, trust me. I live in the mountains so for cardio I take the little one on uphill walks in the stroller. I also like the 10 minute series for Pilates. The Lotte Berk are only 25 min long and Bar is 40 or so. They also can be played in segments like just arms or legs, abs whatever and they all have these quick 10 min workouts when you really don't have time. Good luck, you will drop that weight in no time, that last 10 pounds is tough I know. And good for you for staying home, it is the best thing we can do for our kids, and being a hot mom is great for our husbands, haha.

It gives you a walking CD so you can do a cardio walk outside with the kids in a stroller and stay on fat-burning pace, and then has an at-home component for after the walk that has graphics that babies can watch. It didn't hold my son's attention, but it really had some great strength exercises and helped tone me. I'm on week 6 of bedrest with another 4 weeks in my future, so I've become a little stir crazy and have already purchased some workout videos (and watched some of them too). I'm anxious to dive into these to lose the baby weight. I too need something exciting and different to keep motivated. When I saw the Turbo Jam workouts I was sold. They incorporate cardio kick boxing with dance moves to keep things interesting. The package I bought came with 5 different workouts. One teaches you the moves/proper form/technique so that you don't feel completely lost when doing the workouts. There is also a 20-minute beginner workout; a 40-minute sculpting workout; a 45-minute cardio dance workout; and an ab workout. You can check it out at beachbody.com. My DVD's also came with a guidebook and recipe book to help get the diet side of things on track. I also have two Bar Method workout DVD's and enjoy them as well when I'm in the mood for a non-impact workout. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Ok, this may not be a video, but it is a great workout. My husband and I just bought the Nintendo WII. It comes with a game that has golf, bowling, tennis, baseball & boxing on it. Anyway, the boxing is the best workout. They are coming out with a game that is strictly for working out, on May 19th. You can read about it on their website. The best workout video I have done or seen is called Postnatal Bootcamp by Lindsey Brin. I bought my copy on amazon.com. She has a 12 week program that you can do at any experience level & I'm currently on week 3 of it & have dropped 10 lbs. Of course everyone looses weight differently but this workout changes weekly so you won't get bored plus it works your whole body. I LOVE it!! Its also set up where you can navigate & pick & choose what intervals you would like to do, so you don't have to do the 12 week program if you don't want to. I HIGHLY reccommend it! I workout every other day which is what she recommends & after a few days you'll feel it so you def. need the day to rest in between. Good Luck! :o)

I have liked Kathy SMith's Functionally Fit Peak Fat burning - it is maybe an hour. Has interval training which is supposed to help boost your metabolism even after exercising. It is focused mainly on lower body which may or may not be what you want. I find Kathy Smith pretty good - she isn't too peppy and yet still energetic enough. I found the intervals better for me than a tradtional 40 minute straight aerobic video. The only thing is it is an older video, hope you can find it. ALso, if you belong to Netflix or blockbuster - sometimes even thru the library you may want to check into renting out a few videos that are recommended rather than buying them and finding out they don't work for you. Good job on the first 25 lbs!!! Good luck on the last 10-15 lbs.

Also, check-out this website: www.slimbodycoach.com. I won a weight loss contest there last year. I was the Round 1 winner. They have a great "lifestyle change" to offer and show you how to eat right for the rest of your life.

Best wishes, D.

This isn't a video, but try Baby Boot Camp. It's a stroller workout that you can bring your kids to. You will have a personal trainer instructing the class. They are usually outdoors and consist of cardio intervals with resistance training. It's a great workout, certainly not boring, and you get to meet lots of moms. Go to the website---www.babybootcamp.com---and see if there are classes in your area.

K.,

I know I'm way late but my suggestion has not been posted yet.

I use www.momentumfs.com for exercising. He is a virtual personal trainer. (I got to know him through another web site that I'm a member of: www.flylady.net--free of charge--very positive encouragement for just anybody)

You could use all the suggestions from the ladies below. He teaches you consistency and battles against the all or nothing attitude that our society is dealing with nowadays. His motto is do rather 6 min of strength training or 10 min walking than nothing at all.

I got through is program from doing nothing (wanting to loose 30lb)to about 3.8 workouts in 5 months and my further journey is that I exercise 6x/week in preparation of 1/2 marathon. 5x/week I do 30 min each--that is all I can bare and Jonathing says more is not necessary if you do it the right way--efficient! (mind you I don't like exercise per say but I do like the results I'm getting). I alternate intervals and strength training and on Saturday is my long run. But that is my journey. Other members do totally differernt things. He always says to do what you like to get moving.

You can get a free workout on his web site (on the left hand site it's listed under the links.

Good luck!

Hi K.,
I know this is late, but I hope you find it useful. First congrats on making fitness part of your life. I am a Jazzercise instructor and wanted to let you know it is also a great workout. There are many Jazzecise facilities in the area, you can find them at Jazzercise.com, most have AM babysitting. The workout is fun, we have current music. There is cardio and strenth and there are no contracts! First class is free and you will meet a lot of nice people. There are also Jazzercise DVD's. I lost all my baby weight in 6 months, just doing Jazzercise. Good Luck.

I've been tivo'ing "Body Electric" and doing that. It's more of a strength training video, and you need hand weights (I use 3-5-8 lbs). What I like about it is the personality of Margaret Richard and the music... each program has it's own eclectic music and you work one muscle group per song (plus one song each for warm up and cool down). Everything from the Rolling Stones to Jack Johnson to Billie Holliday. And because it's different every day, it's hard to get bored. The exercises are simple but you'll definitely feel the burn by the end of each song!

For cardio I have a stepper machine and watch a show while doing it.

The Firm videos are also very good, for both cardio and strength.

Have fun!

Hi K.,

They are old and my be hard to find...but I love the Cindy Crawford workout tapes. Her last one is really good because it is the video she made after she had her baby. There are different levels of workout and different times of workouts...even like 10 minute workouts when you don't have a lot of time.

It is a combo of cardio and weights to tone and burn calories. I have just always had really good results with these tapes. Be careful not to overdo it though...you will be sore!! Hope that helps.

A.

P.S. Maybe talking about it will get me motivated again. I know what it is like to lose that big half and not be so motivated to finish your goal!!

Been a big fan of Tae Bo for years. Recently got into belly dance. I can't remember what the DVD is called (just moved and all my stuff is still in storage) but it's taught by twins. Very fun and great for your abs.

My favorite video was turbo jam. It came with like 6 different work outs. Monday, Wed, Fri I would do the 40 min cardio and 20 min abs. Then on Tue and Thurs I would do the 40 min strength training and 20 min cardio. I lost 70 lbs. with my first baby. I am now going for the second one. Still using the same videos, but we also just bought a treadmill. She has more DVD's than the one i have, but they are fun and I really enjoy working out with them.

Hi K.,
Here is one more suggestion you may want to check out eventhough everybody gave you great advise. Check out Shaklee's Cinch weightloss program at www.cinch.com/goodhealthconcepts . This program has a different approach to losing weight. You lose inches by building muscle(it is powered by an amino acid called:Leucine) and loosing fat. It is very well reearched and safe. If you have heard of Shaklee, you probably know that they have been around for 50 years and are know for their research and quality control. They have a great safety record and never had a recall. There is a great websupport site you may want to check out as well www.cinchclub.com/goodhealthconcepts.Good Luck !

"The Firm" DVD's are excellent. You can order the current ones you see on infomercials or find older versions in stores like K Mart. They range in price from $10 on up (I usually pay between $10 - $20) and they're anywhere from 30 - 60 minutes long. I have about 10 Firm DVD's and I do them 5 - 6 times a week. They work for me--I don't always enjoy doing them, but I feel great afterwards. Good Luck with taking off the last of that weight!

Hi K.,
I actually just finished exercising to my DVD. It is called "Walk At Home" walk away your waistline by Leslie Sansone. I ordered it at deepdiscount.com and it includes a walk belt. I believe it was about twelve dollars. I like it because it has 1,2 & 3 mile markers and it only takes about 15 minutes a mile. I also like "Bellydance Slim Down" by Veena & Neena. I know how hard it is to stay motivated. Why can't we just think ourselves thin?? Have fun with it...

I have used the Jane Fonda Complete Trainer Exercise program. I bought it off of Amazon. It has a mix of arobics, stretching and light weight training. You can choose from 6 different workouts that are all 25-30 min long. I found that I could fit that in during nap time. I know Jane Fonda is a little 1980s, but I like the straightforward arobics and couldn't find it in other videos.

Hello K. E,
I am so glad to see your question. I am not sure how it alluded me, by the date. I am recommending a cleanse, unless you are nursing, then simple twenty minutes of brisk walking twice a day outside in the beauty of spring. Please visit my website and see how I got the energy, rid of cobwebs in my thinking and felt so good from just giving my body the nutrients that was needed. I lost 30 lbs. in 30 day program. We also have a nine day program. [www.talltree.isagenix.com ]
I recommend IsaVideo: Doctor, Doctor tell me the truth!

If you like to dance, try a dance video in whatever style you enjoy (belly dancing, swingin' to the oldies, tai-bo, whatever makes you smile and makes you actually WANT to do it). Otherwise, try going and taking a dance class a couple nights a week. You can do it :)
