My 2 1/2 month old is exclusively breastfed. However, his bowel movements seem very irregular to me. He only poops every 2-3 days and when he goes, its all liquid with very little seedy poop mixed in. It is so much that it immediately fills and leaks out of his diaper. I am using Pampers Swaddlers so these are not the cheap diapers. Anyone else have babies that did this? What I eat seems to have no effect on him. He is a very happy baby and has little gas. Any suggestions? Is it just normal for him? Thanks for any help you can give!
TOTALLY normal. Those poops come out with such a force sometimes. :) We used to be able to hear my oldest boy's poops come out from the other room! Breastfed babies sometimes only poop every few days, and you may get to a point where it's only once a week. My oldest would go only once a week and then he would go. All. Day. :)
What you are experiencing is totally normal breastfeeding poops. Enjoy! At least they don't stink. ;o)

Very normal indeed. Two of my girls did this thing for awhile where they would only poop once a week. One time the older one went 9 days without a bm. This was when they were about 3-4 months. Somewhere around there.

Hi CS.
Yup, completely normal. My son's poop was like that until last month when we started giving him some solid foods. I asked my ped about him only going every 2-3 days and she said some babies go 10-12 days without a BM!
As for the diapers, we used swaddlers, and now we are in cruisers, but I have used baby dry as well, and they were good too. We only had about 5 or 6 "explosions", where it leaked out. i think that will happen with any diaper. You may want to try and go up a size.
Congrats on your new baby boy!

Sounds very very normal. Both my boys who were breastfed exclusively to 6 months had poop like that. Breastmilk has very little waste. And the large amount creating a blow out is also very normal. Just stock up on some oxyclean or stain remover. No diapers hold it in because it comes out with such force. Cloth *might* work a little better cause the top and bottom of the cover are elastic but I can't imagine any disposable holding it in. I never found one.

The seedy substance you are seeing in his diaper is completely normal. Breastfed babies digest the milk faster than formula fed babies, this is why in the first two weeks you feel a little like a dairy cow. The little seedy deposits are extra fat that is not digested (breast milk is very greasy and fatty). This will go away once you start introducing solid foods, and his bowel movements will become more the consistancy of peanutbutter.
If he is overflowing diapers everytime he has a bowel movement you may want to go the the next size up. That is what I did with my little guy and it made a world of a difference, because even though the diapers still fit fine his little bottom was taking more room and the only place for his poop to go was out. I found that Huggies are really good at holding in the mess. Also, Target has its own brand of diapers that are pretty good too, and they are pretty cheap.
As for his runny diapers, try eating food that are bland and not so gassy. Whatever you eat he does too try to remember that and you should notice a change in his bowel movements. Plus if he is having runny stools you can try eating more toast, bananas, and dished with rice these things will help him have a little more solid stools.
You may also want to try contacting you local lactation consultant through the La Lecha league. They may have some diet tips and suggestions also.
I hope this helps you!

I am having the exact same issue! My daughter just turned 8 weeks and only goes every 2-3 days, and when she does, it's the poop of a lifetime! Very liquidy, only a few "seeds" and completely leaks out of her diaper and stains her clothes so I have to spend tons of time on stain removal. This is completely foreign to me, as my first child went several times a day. My daughter is also very happy and gaining weight normally, so I have to assume that this is normal. I did notice that if I give her the infant gas drops, she does go every day. But I hate to give her these drops on days when she doesn't need it. Hope this helps! :)

I would say that's normal. My son pooped every day, but my daughter, not so much. She's a every 3-4 day pooper. And she has filled her diaper and then some too. I use Pampers Baby Dry, I think they're more absorbent. I think that as long as he's pooping and he's happy that's all that matters.
