Generally the more you pay the better the product and it is worth spending the extra. It will last longer and be much more effective. We use Sealer's Choice Gold - From Home Depot (I think...maybe Lowes...I would try HD first)on our grout. Just remember: what ever you use you will have to reseal it anually. I had Granite counters in our last house (which I never sealed)and after about two years I realized that the areas I used the most were considerably darker than the rest and it started to just look like they weren't as clean. I tried a variety of cleaning techniques and nothing made a difference....luckily the buyers didn't seem to mind. It is beautiful and somewhat indestructable, but I don't have Granite now because of the maintenance.

For a sealer, try Sealers Choice #15 from Home Depot.....my husband has done tile and granite for 12 years, and we just put in granite slabs in our kitchen.
If you want the permanent wet look, beware that it will wear off very quickly, more so in the areas you use the most, and any time you clean it. And you can't reapply it just too those areas, so it winds up looking not too good after a while!

You can purchase sealer at Lowe's or Home Depot for your granite countertops. Re-seal your countertops yearly. If you would like the aged look for your granite counter tops look for a local fabricator in the area and ask how much it will cost for them to hand sand the surface. I work at a carpet store that also sells tile and granite. My boss and his wife own a granite sealing company and I have a few products that I could recommend to you. They are both made by a company called Aquamix. The first is called Sealers Choice. When you use this product to seal your granite it leaves the granite looking the same as it did before you sealed it, not enhancing the color in any way. Then there is Enrich N Seal. When you use this to seal your granite, it will enhance the color of your granite, giving it more depth. Just make sure you wear gloves and follow the directions to the "T" or have a professional do it for you. I hope this helps! Have a wonderful night! ~B. D.~

Do you currently have honed granite (matte finish)? Granite fabricators get the high-gloss finish by polishing the stone completely smooth first (by running it through a huge machine). I think (but I could be wrong) that honed granite is not as highly finished as polished granite, therefore nothing you put on the top of it would necessarily make it look like polished granite. But if you just want your honed granite to look shiny, I would imagine that is possible. I think your best bet is to call a granite supplier and ask their opinion.

Contact your best granite dealer in your area. Ask them because they will tell you what product works best and how to.
I think it is a good idea to seal the granite because it is pourous, but I am not sure they seal granite. It is usually just polished.
so call around to tile and stone places - and don't take the advice of a desk clerk...get a person who intalls...

I chose not to seal our granite. They use harsh toxic materials and then the thought of preparing food on this didn't make sense to me. I did find info (can't remember what site) that said if your granite is not very porous you can avoid sealing. They said to put approx a Tablespoon of water and then wait I think about 10 mins. if the water does not change much or get absorbed that the granite is not very porous. Our granite looks great, not aged at all. I actually like the look of the honed not shiny surface.

I had my granite sealed a few years ago. I looked like the guy was putting car wax on it, let it sit, then wiped it off just like your would car wax. It was about $400 which was pretty expensive. I think I looked in the yellow pages and found this guy.
