What Should I Charge?

Here is the deal, my friend has asked if I could watch her son 2 days a week, and also take him and pick him up from a mothers-day-out program which is fine. So that would mean I would have him in my house for about 4 hours 2 days a week, and not to mention the whole pick up drop off thing. I think it would be fine to do (to watch him) he is a good kid and I think my son would have fun playing with him. So my question is what should I charge her to do this?

What can I do next?

The average daycare gets $7-10 per hour, by my calculations anyway. So go a little under that. How far do you have to drive with gas sky high? How hard is it to get out with all three kids? What is her financial situation? Talk to her about it. Maybe agree to a trial period with a trial price. Giving you the option to raise the price if you feel you are doing more work than expected. Just remember to be honest with her. I would rather have a good friend than extra money, but I wouldn't want to feel like I was being used either. I hope I didn't just complicate it for you. Good Luck.

Hi J.,

I dont know much about in home care but I know that the average 2 day cost at a **decent** childcare center for 2 days a weeks $100.00. Keep in mind the average is 10 hours a day a child is in care. So that would be about 5 dollars an hour, but there is no responsibility of driving.

Keep in mind the liability you take by driving the child, insurance etc. I would think 60-70 would be resonable.

I charged $30 a day. And i watched the little girl 4 day's a week and for 10 hours a day.

So I think $30 a day sounds good.
An ave daycare charges $40 a day so i think this is fair.

I think most in home daycares charge about $25.00 a day or more. So I would at least charge that amount because you have to drop off and pick up from preschool. Have you just talked with her to see how much she was thinking about paying. Just a little advice I learned from watching my friends little girl sometimes it best not to get involved. Don't do it just because you feel like you need to help her out. It becomes a time consuming and take into consideration of your children when they nap will picking him up interfer with naps? What happens if your children are sick will she be able to find someone else to take care of her child? Just things to think about before you agree.
