sounds like an allergy, that would give him a stomach ache, expecially if his system isn't used to it, when I put mine on whole milk I put half water and half milk with a little karo syrup to keep them from contipation. It worked, mine couldn't do the formula, they threw it up the minute they drank it, they had to go on milk.

It sounds like your son is allergic to milk. And I don't mean lactose intolerant. I mean he is probably haveing an allergic reaction. Like a child would to say penuts or shellfish. My son is allegic to milk. It's the protein in the milk that they are allergic to. He exhibited the same symptoms. I cut out all milk (including anything that says it has whey protein in it on the label...which is a lot of things, I hate to tell ya...) and it completely stopped. Ask your pediatrician, but that's what it sounds like to me. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions. Hope it helps.

Yikes, sounds like the milk. My kids started having nonstop diarrhea as soon as I weaned them and they started drinking milk. It causes a lot of problems for a lot of people (ear infections, digestive problems, etc.). Soy milk is full of estrogens, so I don't think it's a good substitute. Rice milk is better, but doesn't have much protein...

Cow's milk is harder to digest, and so many kids are allergic to it. I think most outgrow the allergy though. Maybe the milk is hard on his little tummy. I'd call the Dr.
Good luck!

Okay, I am going to "assume" something because you didn't say so here? Did you just "stop" giving him formula and go cold turkey to milk? If so STOP. His little body has to adjust to milk. I have years and years in Child Care and I can tell you that when you stop formula one day and start milk the next you are tearing up his entire system. His body is telling you he has a problem.

I definantly say you need to get a call in to your peditrician and discuss this with them now, this morning. If it is a milk allergy then you have to deal with the allergy part immed.

I can tell you only of my experiences with children and transitioning them from formula to milk. Most parents have, when the baby is at about 11 months old, started 1/4 milk to 3/4 formula for a week or so, then 1/2 milk to 1/2 for another week or so, then 3/4 milk to 1/4 formula. By the time they are a year old they are taking mostly milk but this gives their tummies time to adjust. When I have hade a baby room parent just change overnight that baby was screaming all day for weeks, the pooh would turn white and stink so bad that teachers in another room would puke when that baby's poopy diaper was changed. Literally puke. The baby couldn't eat, they eventually got over it but it was way harsh on their little bodies.

There are lots of alternatives to milk, there is formula for the older baby, we received WIC for all of my grandkids and WIC will even cover extended use of formula if your doctor writes a prescription. There is no law that says your child has to go off formula by age 1. Many moms here have suggested different options too. Discuss it with the pediatrician and do what's best for your child.

I would completely stop the milk for a few days to a week and see if he gets better. If he doesn't, then it may not be the milk. If he gets better, try the milk again, and see if he gets sick again. Good luck!

My sons are both allergic to milk. They get horrible exema and little red dots all over their bodies. We give them goat's milk instead. I would take all dairy out of his diet to see if that will help. That means no cheese, yogurt, milk, etc. If he goes back to normal, try introducing items one at a time back into his diet. Soy milk is an okay option. Lactaid may or may not be a good option, depending what kind of allergies he has.

Good luck!

When we switched our son (12 months also) over to whole milk, he had an allergic reaction after a few days had passed also. I took him to the dr. and was told to immediately stop the milk and put him back on his formula for about a week or two. I was horrified that I would have to keep him on his high dollar formula that he had to use because of other allergies. Thankgoodness, what worked for us was the powdered milk that you buy usually in the same row as the flour/sugar/canned milk. It has all the vitamins and minerals as whole milk but you mix it with water usually in quart size measurements. He loved it and that's what he drank until he was in grade school. When he was in daycare, I would take them his milk in a thermos or large container. It was very worth any small extra effort. Allergic reactions can be very dangerous. Good luck!!

Definitely take him to the dr. & I would stop the milk for now. Note, I was told that it takes about 15 days for the proteins in milk to get out of your baby's body. So, you should check w/ your dr., but I think you need to take milk out for a couple weeks to see if this is the issue. Your dr. can also do a fecal occult blood test where they test his poop to see if there is any blood in it at the microscopic level. If it's an allergy he'll have some blood in his stool. I

I agree with everyone else, call the doctor.

But, don't jump to the assumption that it is a milk allergy - it may be a weird coincidence. If he was on a milk-based formula, it would be strange to develop the allergy at this time.

Your best bet is to get him into the Pediatrician ASAP. If you can't today, I'd certainly ask the triage nurse what they would recommend for him to drink until he can be seen - at that age, they need the milk fat for their brain development, so they should be able to recommend something in the interim.

GOOD LUCK!
