So I just paid my DirecTV bill and saw my most recent credit came off - so it is $113 a month! HOLY COW! So I called them, and because we have been customers since creation and always pay our bills early, they gave me $36 a month off, plus free Showtime for 12 months and free Starz Superpack for 24 months. WOW! I am one happy chick! What kind of deals have you gotten by calling to request a better deal?

What can I do next?

My sister calls DirecTV once a month and asks what deal they are running and she usually get its. I don't know if its the best deal, but I switched electric companies and for the past 3 months, I've been saving over $100 a month in electricity.

We pay comcast 150 a month + taxes for all of their cable channels, home phone & internet. We had signed up for one of those promo deals that was like 99 a month. One month i opened the bill and it was like 300! i had no warning the promo price was going to end. So i called to cancel and the next thing i knew i was talking to the retention dept and i have the 150 a month price until i disconnect the service. I am super happy with that. Sometimes its worth a polite call!

Yes, my Amex interest was creeping up little by little for no particular reason. I called them and told them unless they could lower my interest significantly, I would be paying off the entire balance and closing my account. They did.

I always get good deals with Comcast. We have their Cable, and Internet, and only pay $90 in our area we should be paying over a $100 and for awhile we were. But a simple phone call just to see if they can do anything and magic happens :) Pretty awesome!

Well I feel that I just scored a deal today too. We have Uverse TV, and a few weeks back I called them and downgraded my service. It only saved me $15 a month, which I thought really sucked. Anyhow, fast forward a few weeks, and my family is yapping at me because they miss their TV show, my hubby included, who rarely watches TV, but when he watches it, he wants what he wants. So I called them up today to switch back to what I used to have, and they gave it to me for free. They were running a special to upgrade from one tier to another. Score!!! My hubby was very happy.

You can get a deal on any non-essential bill..they want your business. My phone/internet deal is great...and every time they try to raise it (when it expires) I call and threaten to quit, so they give me more deals. :)

none! and I have tried! Comcast is horrid. Sadly we can use anyone else. I hate it though. I have to deal with them on a monthly basis because stuff is either not working or our service is down!

I wish we could use satellite...we are just in the wrong area and to covered in trees...it doesn't receive well.

I had to call the city to complain about our electric meter. I knew as the summer heat came the bill would go up and ours kept going down. 3 months in a row, it was obvious to me something was wrong. I called and said I think our meter is broken and the gal was rude and started in with her speach about how summer is coming and if we did something to help conserve energy we wouldnt be shocked at the cost of eletricity,,and I had to stop her half way thru to say, thats not the problem,,its TOO LOW! She was shocked. Actually told me the meter reader must have read it wrong and would make a note of it. Well, next month came and the bill was lower. Im talking about a bill that should be about $250 was down to $35. Ive lived in this house enough summers to know what Im talking about and I knew there was a problem. I had to call 5 months in a row. They even had me go read it and tell them over the phone and then they insisted I must have read it wrong. Finally they sent someone to come check instead of just reading it and oh golly gee, its broken!! They replaced the meter and the bill was back to normal. By then it was starting to cool off. Who knows how much we saved that summer but Im sure it was hundreds if not over $1000. We never heard from the city about paying an average of past years or anything, As much as I wanted and tried to do the right thing they sure made it difficult for me, so I guess that was my reward.
