I had to call the city to complain about our electric meter. I knew as the summer heat came the bill would go up and ours kept going down. 3 months in a row, it was obvious to me something was wrong. I called and said I think our meter is broken and the gal was rude and started in with her speach about how summer is coming and if we did something to help conserve energy we wouldnt be shocked at the cost of eletricity,,and I had to stop her half way thru to say, thats not the problem,,its TOO LOW! She was shocked. Actually told me the meter reader must have read it wrong and would make a note of it. Well, next month came and the bill was lower. Im talking about a bill that should be about $250 was down to $35. Ive lived in this house enough summers to know what Im talking about and I knew there was a problem. I had to call 5 months in a row. They even had me go read it and tell them over the phone and then they insisted I must have read it wrong. Finally they sent someone to come check instead of just reading it and oh golly gee, its broken!! They replaced the meter and the bill was back to normal. By then it was starting to cool off. Who knows how much we saved that summer but Im sure it was hundreds if not over $1000. We never heard from the city about paying an average of past years or anything, As much as I wanted and tried to do the right thing they sure made it difficult for me, so I guess that was my reward.
