What Is One of Your Favorite Prego Encounter Memories? :)

I was reading a post where one person replied how personal boundaries become nonexistent while pregnant. That certainly is the truth! Lol. I had my share of the annoying comments, but sometimes I enjoyed the reactions of strangers. My favorite is when I was about a week away from my due date, super fat, my back was hurting, I still had another 2 hours to go of a 10 hour shift (yeah, THAT was great. Make the prego lady stand at the cash register all day. My poor hubby had to take my shoes off for me because my feet swelled so much that I couldn't do it myself. Lol.), I had horrible heartburn, and I was just generally pissed off at the universe.

Then this little (small, not young. He was probably in his early-mid 20s.) Mexican guy comes through my line with some of his buddies. This guy was GAY as you can get. You know, the hand-flipping, snazzy clothes, the hair, everything about him just screamed gay. (Please don't take that the wrong way... I am just trying to give you a picture of what the guy was like.) He gets up to me, and was in one of those super-good moods, the kind that automatically lifts your spirit to be around. He looks at me, and says "OOOH! We are having a BABY!!" While hopping in place and clapping. (Imagine your stereotypical 16 year old girl finding out she's going to a Justin Beiber concert. Lol) So I smile and say "yeah, I'm due next week actually." So he asked me if I knew what I was having, and when I told him that it was a girl he says, "OOOH!!! She's gonna be a (insert hand flip here) DIVA!!!" I was still laughing at that as he received his change and left.

It was just so funny to me, and especially at a moment when I really needed a good laugh. So that is one of my favorite prego encounter memories. Do you have any you would like to share? :)

What can I do next?

I was past my due date with my 1st and was walking the mall trying to go into labor. I was super skinny except my huge belly. As I was coming down the escalator these two girls passing at the bottom shouted (very loudly) "Damn dat girl looks like shes gonna explode!" Everyone looked at me, as they drew so much attention with their declaration. I just laughed as I thought it was hilarious.

I was watching a movie with my husband at the theater, and was about 7 months pregnant with my first. The lady next to us was so annoying, giggling, snorting, talking all through the movie, so I did not have a high opinion of her. But, when we stood up at the end of the show, she looked at me and said, "Oh my, look at you! How wonderful you are expecting!" We chatted briefly, then she opened her wallet and gave us a $20 bill and told us it was for the baby. It was so neat, we really needed the money too, I think we were only able to go to the movies that night b/c it was a gift card for our anniversary or something. I decided to be less judgmental of first impressions right then and there.

OK I got two:

First one I was pretty far along and I was huge. I am small so my belly was just hysterical to look at. So I walked out of work carrying a briefcase, a laptop in a case and a stack of big binders. It was really cold and wet and I did not realize it had started to ice over. So I slipped and woosh! Down I went! Then I realized with the two bags over my shoulders and the binders on my chest I was stuck! LOL!! I was turtled and could not get enough momentum going to get myself up! Luckily I worked across the street from - you ready for this? A maternity store. Several women came rushing out of the store and righted me and got me to my car. We were all laughing ourselves silly about the sisterhood of women having to help each other out!

Later, in the next pregnancy I was teaching a class. I felt some contractions but they weren't bad and I figured they were Braxton-Hicks. I figured I would just get through the lecture. At the break one of my students walked up to me and said, "I don't know if you know this, but I am a labor and delivery nurse. Your contractions are getting closer together and more regular you might want to cut this class short!" I was shocked I had no idea how she could tell from her seat that I was contracting but she could! Luckily they were Braxton-Hicks and slowed down and stopped during the second half! For that class I just managed to complete the final grades and drop them off at the registrar's office in time to head straight to the hospital and deliver!

HAHAHA that's a great story!

I was probably about 5 months pregnant, just enough to be noticeable but not huge (yet). I had put together a dinner for a large medical team and being the preggo one I was the only one not drinking. As I was going from group to group I came upon our European team and they were, well let’s say a few drinks in. Since they never got to see me they were excited to see "the belly".

One of the women explained that she used to be a delivery nurse and proceeded to grab me, much closer to down south than most people had been. She then went on to tell the group that the head was pointed down at the moment. I joked that if she kept going she was going to be able to shake hands with my unborn child! Luckily dinner was served and I was released from having a full examination.

I loved your story! I could use a good laugh right now. I am pregnant with my third and not feeling so good today--so thanks for the laugh! One of my favorite memories of my pregnancies is when you have the most adorable little older ladies come up to you and tell you all about their births and what advice they want to give you and give you lots of smiles, hugs and tell you its gonna be fine hunny! lol. The other favorite is when I got told over and over again how lucky we were to be having boys and that they would bring our family luck and honor and would carry on the family name. Most of these ladies touched my belly and would grab their hand like they had touched gold. It was very interesting to see the differences in religion and ethic backgrounds---how they feel about pregnancy, the gender etc. I am looking forward to seeing the difference in this pregnancy vs my others as I am having a baby girl now--so we will see!

Okay I have a couple - not necessariy my 'favorite' but my most memorable.

First was the first time I felt my 1st born kick. I had had a horrible day at work - was grumpy and sitting in a chair in the living room eating pizza and watching tv and felt her kick. Then I put my hand on my belly and felt it. Man that was amazing!

I also used to LOVE to watch my belly roll around when either of my kids would move all over.

A funny one was when my sister (14 at the time), dad, mom and I went to see Knocked Up...I was 7 months along...and sitting by my dad during their sex scene. It was very awkward for me because I just kept wondering if my family was thinking about me (not sure why i thought that) but I was very embarrased!!!

While driving out in the country about 5 months into my first pregnancy, out of no where a few baby foxes ran into the road and I hit them. Not sure why I didn't stop or check them out. Probalby were dead...but I cried the entire way home and continued - telling my hubby that the foxes parents were probably worried sick!!!

I was in the cafeteria at work and was about 8 months pregnant. I was heavy to begin with, so it wasn't entirely obvious I was pregnant and I wasn't broadcasting it everywhere. So anyway, the grill cook comes up to me and asks me if I was pregnant. I told him yes and he got the biggest smile on his face and said, I knew it wasn't the cheeseburgers making you fat! Definitely not the right thing to say, but I couldn't help bursting out laughing. He just seemed so happy it wasn't the cheeseburgers!

Love your story too!

My favorite was when I was 41 weeks and shopping at Babies R Us and the lady who ran their baby portrait department gave me a free pregnancy photo.

She was sweet, and I needed it at 41 weeks!

HAHAHAHA! I don't think I can beat that story! SOOO funny.
When my mom was pregnant with my little sister, HER mother was very much against the name they'd chosen: Rynthia. She said it was an awful name and then got into how she wasn't going to like the baby...Anyway, my mom just said it was like Cynthia, but with an R. So, when I named my daughter Reagan, my mom went off. That's a man's name, you're naming her after a man? I told her it was just like Megan, but with an R. She never criticized again.

My sister was due two weeks before me. She's a fairly skinny person and had a big old pregnant belly. I on the other hand, am short, and FAT and wide through the hip. NO ONE could tell I was pregnant!

Call me WEIRD but I LOVED walking around with her and watching her put up with all the intrusive people while I hummed "I have a SECRET!"
