A little about her.....She does have a DS, we do have a computer and she does love board games as well. She is a strong reader and does need improvement in math.

I am a Discovery Toy consultant and there is a great board game I got for my kids that is called Money Money and it is only $20. It is great for math, thinking, reading and language. There are also a few other board games available too, if you want to contact me for more details. ____@____.com

Consider getting her a kids' cookbook and the "stuff" to go with it- apron, small mixing bowls, her own measuring cups. Math can be really boring, but baking and cooking are really all about math and equations. Take a recipe for two and "double it"... what do you have?? Addition, multiplication, measurement and sequence/direction-following, maybe even some telling-time and elapsed time.

Educational toys are pricey and have always felt "packaged" to me. I used to suggest that parents look at more practical items that allow for growth and interaction. She can get in the kitchen with you, do something fun and then get to eat something delicious as a reward for all of her efforts!

I am getting my almost 7 yr old son the fridge poetry magnet kit. I think he will have so much fun putting together sentences with all the little words. You can also buy her a math program application for kids...where they play math type games on the computer.

My aunt got my daughter a board game for Christmas (haven't gotten it yet) that is like scrabble, but with math equations. Not sure how it'll fly with her yet, but it sounded like it might help with her math skills.

hi there
I consider it an educational toy, an easel.. my son who is now 9 still uses his. We gave it to him when he was 4.. he colors, draws, prints.. we've practiced math and writing on it... and many other things... an easel, although for art, also makes learning fun... you could practice math on it and make it like a game..
we have one that is dry erase on one side and chalk on the other..
of all gifts he has ever recd, my son has used and uses this one the most.. money well spent........ through and through..

Happy holidays!!

Not sure of where you live, but there is a great store on Hall Road (M-59) in the Sterling Heights area. It is called Lakeshore Learning. It is in a strip mall right after Babies R Us. You can look at their website before you go or just order off the website. The store is really great though and you should check it out. It is all educational toys, games, supplies, school related items, etc. etc.

How about a cash register? Playing store is so much fun for kids and lets her work on her math skills at the same time. You can also get play money, play food, and make some price signs like 4 for $1 and "wrap" in the reusable grocery bags sold cheaply at your local grocery store.
