What I Love About Retrievers...

I have my granddaughter Ellie for a week and a half. Ellie is a goldendoodle. We have an older chocolate lab in one of the houses behind us. When he is out the two of them do the fence run. Ya know, that back and forth for no real reason? I used to have two golden retrievers and then would actually run the fence side by side. They always seem so happy with their tails going.

I am fairly sure this isn't just retrievers that do this but I know not all breeds do it so I guess I am wondering what other breeds do the fence run?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

TF, Ellie's favorite is to fetch the ball in the pool. Swear she could swim for hours until she is wobbly.

B, yes they are so found of humans. Ellie gets sad because her crate is in the family room and none of us will sleep on the sofa with her.

Margie, Ellie sheds a little because she is only an F1. My daughter didn't want to kill her fiancee but she didn't want a brown poodle either. Her fiancee has no issues with his allergies with her so it was good enough. The F2s and the F2bs generally don't shed at all.

It's me again, my daughter takes her to the dog park and the same thing. My daughter thinks it is funny that the first thing she does is uses her bathroom, same spot every time, as soon as she get there and then runs the fence while she cleans the bathroom. She has a bathroom spot in our yard too which I kind of like since our yard is large and I am lazy.

No fence here, so I don't have a clue. (GSD)
Her favorite activities used to include chasing tennis balls and frisbees (and bonking a medium sized, soft, kick ball type ball back into the pool, like a seal when a swimmer would toss it in her direction). Unfortunately, she is older, and arthritis together with a recent bout of Old Dog Vestibular Disorder has made chasing and jumping and being around the pool not such good ideas. :/

I love goldendoodles too. Question for you - do they shed much?
I am envious of your dogs. I grew up with a golden retriever. Happiest dog I ever knew :)

THanks J. on the info!

Our neighbors chocolate lab has adopted us.
A few times a week she'll show up on the back or front porch (we live out in the country) and we'll spoil her, play ball with her and take her back home.
We take her on walks in the park and if one of the three of us isn't home she'll keep looking for the missing family member.
She's never so happy as when she's rounded up all of us and her own family so we're all together in one spot!

I have large private yard which is rare for my area. It is in a 3 level tier with stone walls.

Our dogs have always loved the yard and we had Cocker Spaniels and a toy poodle.

Since my husband died, I adopted a part lab/shar pei. She adores the yard, is a great watchdog, she's chased Bobcats, coyotes and armadillos away!

I'm training her to fetch the tennis ball. My cocker would do this all day. Ginger is doing better with the tennis ball but she also loves to bring sticks to me!

She would stay out of I let her with exception of rain ( she refuses to get her feet wet) and patrol the yard. She's a great addition for me.

I love golden doodles!!

Well, our black lab mix will do that in a friendly way, but our alaskan malamute will run/walk the fence perimeter as more of a protecting her yard thing LOL, making sure no animal intruders are present.

We don't have a fence, but we have a retriever! Right now he is sleeping belly up sucking his paw. :)

We have an 18 month old Goldendoodle, Owen. Neither of us had dogs before so it's extra special. Ours does the fence run too but only at the dog park. Happy doggie sitting.
