What Happened?

My daughter is 6 months old, we started her on food about 3 weeks ago, she was doing really well, eating veggies and cereal, lately though she wants nothing to do with anything, not fruit, not veggies or cereal. I even tried mixing fruit in her cereal. She is just not interested...is this normal?

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

Yep, I'd say what your daughter is doing is very normal. First of all, some babies go through phases that they like something one day, but not the next. You will also experience this throughout toddlerhood, for sure! Also, it's possible that Alexia may be teething. I know the foods you are feeding her are soft, but some babies experience such bad pain while teething that they want really nothing in their mouths, especially spoons. Some babies will also reject their milk for this reason too, but this is really just a very temporary thing. I suggest just to keep trying to feed her the solids; one day (hopefully soon), she will welcome them again! Good luck!

It sounds as though she maybe going through a growth spurt. I have seen this happen with my own kids and the kids at my daycare. When little ones are teething or going through growth spurts the don't eat much and start sleeping a little longer. It will get back to normal just keep trying! As long as the baby is still getting formula or breast milk the baby is receiving all the vitamins it needs! Pick up a copy of the Portable Pediatrician it explains a lot about everything from birth to five years old. I live by that book! Good Luck!

Your baby could be teething. My son had a problem eating solids when he was teething at that age. You may want to check the signs: jeruling (?), mild+ fever, bumps or white pimple like sponts along their gum...

I think it is normal. It's only been 3 weeks, just keep with the same routine. My daughter is 8 months old now and she went throught the same thing. She is teething now and there are still some days where she doesn't eat as much as others. I just stuck with the same feeding routine and at least offered her food, gradually she started eating more. As long as she's still drinking her bottles she'll come around.

yes it is normal. Some days my daughter eats anything yougive her and some days she will not eat anything. My pediatricain said that up to 1 year- the baby get all ofthe nutrition from formula or breast milk. the solid food is just practice- so dont worry about how much food she eats. I would take a break from solid foods for a couple of days -myabe over the weekend whenyou are home with her... and then start reintroducing the foods again. if she still doesnt want it wait a few more days and try again. dont give her any positive feedback for eating or not eating.. you dont want to set up eating problems late.

Hi L.,
Sounds normal to me. Don't stress yourself out over little things, you'll drive yourself crazy. LOL!! Kids go through so many different stages that I'm sure she'll start eating again soon (if she hasen't already). Good luck.
