What Formula Do You Feed ??

My son is currently on Good Start with Bifidus. Was wondering what formula out there is good on eliminating gas (or helping it) and spitting up? I tried giving my son a bottle of Nutramegine (sp?) and he threw it all up. (this was recommended from a friend who swears by it) I opt'd to not give him another feeding since he never threw up like this before on the Good Start.

Any suggestions would be great. Basically want to help my son with his gas problem (he stinks and crys due to his discomfort). THANKS!

What can I do next?

I have heard that Formula is always harder digested than breastmilk in most babies under 6 months. My daughter was and still is very spitty. We litterally tried every formula, Similac Sensitive, Enfamil AR, Alimentum, Nutragimin - I know I am not spelling these correctly but you know which ones I am talking about. Smililac Soy etc - talked to my pediatrician and many advice nurses and they let me know that you really aren't going to see how they do on a formula unless you use it for about 1 month - and when switching it has to be gradual. If your child does have a milk allergy there is a simple test that can be done at your dr's office to test for it.

We ended up using the Good Start in the green can - we have had the best results with that one and are sticking with it.

I put her on formula at 6 months

I switched from Similac (hated it) to Nestle's Good Start Soy formula. We put her on Soy because she would have bad gas pains and we think she had a milk intolerance. The Soy formula changed my life. She was instantly happier and she started sleeping 10+ hours at night. Before she slept about 7-8 hours at 2 months old.

My son had horrible reflux, and the pediatrician recommended both Nutramigen and Alimentum. Nutramigen smells and tastes (I made my poor husband try it) foul. We went with Alimentum (made by Similac, I believe). Are you getting good burps from your baby after feeding? If you burp him once mid-feeding and then again at the end, you can help with both gas and spit-up if he is swallowing air and also burping up air that is under some formula. Keep your baby upright for at least 20 minutes after feeding if possible. Also, you might want to cut back a bit on how much formula he gets each feeding to help the spit-up problem. However, there might also be an underlying medical problem -- in our son's case, reflux and the constipation that accompanied. Please take your son to the pediatrician if these initial steps do not work (a little spit-up is normal, but regular pain is not okay). Your son might need some medication to control acid and to help his digestive system work more smoothly.

My 5 month old son has had reflux since he was about 3 weeks old. We tried good start, then similac, then ended up on Enfamil Gentlease which has worked very well for him. It has reduced lactose and is supposed to be good for fussy gassy babies. I'm not sure whether he is better because of the formula or the medication, though!

Hi,

When my son used formula, we used Similac Advance with DHA & ARA. He was extremely picky and a gassy baby. He was very happy with this formula. Its kind of expensive- but I think they all are!

My son is 3 months old & drinks Similac Advance in the powder form. He seems to like it, and he doesn't get too gassy. Good luck!

We started using formula around 4 or 5 months, but we used Good Start and liked it. We also did use Similac a few times but it seemed like my girls spit up less on the Good Start. It's possible your son may be reacting to the milk in the formula. Maybe he would respond better to a soy formula?
