What Do You Think of Sleep Sacks/Wearable Blankets?

Our twins are 5 months old and we stopped swaddling them about a month ago. They'd get out in the middle of the night and were also getting to a point where they preferred to start off with their arms out. We have been swaddling them with their arms out but notice they will usually end up with no blankets on them by morning. I've been thinking of getting a sleep sack to help with this. What do you all think? Are they warm enough...to have them in Pj's and this and no blanket? Thanks for any advice you may have.

What can I do next?

I loved them. I preferred the kind without sleeves because it was easier to get them dressed / undressed if they were tired. I will definitely be using them again for my next child. Great investment!!

Love them. Used them with both kids. I like the Halo ones because they come in larger sizes. I like the Target ones because they connect/zip from bottom (so you're not trying to connect the zipper under a sleeping baby's chin). BUT, they only came in 0-9 months when I used them, so we outgrew it pretty fast. I imagine they might also be easy to make. Yes, I believe they're warm enough with jammies underneath.

Sleep sacks are great! We use them every night with our 3-month old.

When it was colder we had him in fleecey pajamas and the sleep sack, but on warmer nights just a long sleeved onesie or cotton jammies.

We have the kind that snap at the shoulders as well as zipping up the front- easier to take on and off.

I used a few different types of sleep sacks. Haylo make a vest type one that zips up the front that was a bit thicker for colder nights and i would just put that on over his footed pjs. I also had a carters one that had long sleeves that was fleece and also zipped up the front I used that on not such cold nights like durig the fall and just put a onsei under it. They are great until they start trying to stand up in thier crib. So I stopped using them when he was about 8 months old. But since it is getting warmer I wouldn't think they are to necessary it is better to have a baby a little cooler then too warm.

I used the Carter's sleep sacks with my first and plan to with my second due in June. My first is always warm - so I would put a onsie on him and then in the sack. We loved them and I can't wait to be able to use them on my second. Good Luck - and check consiment stores / garage sales!!

I love Sleep Sacks... I used them with my daughter till she was a really good crawler going into trying to stand up (so around 8/9 months). Then for me it was still cold/winter so I used fleece footed PJ which my daughter loves because they are so warm and soft.

When the weather is warmer you can still use the sleep sack with just a diaper on... when it was colder I would put her in a ones underneath just for added warmth. During the warm summer months you can always use footless summer PJ if you think or if the babies feel super warm in the fleece footed PJs.

My daughter rolled around a lot so even putting a blanket on top of her she usually ended up on top of the blanket instead of under but she had a favorite blanket that she would not fall asleep with out (every since she was 8 months).

I used a sleep sack with my daughter until she started getting mobile around 6 months. I used the long sleeved sleep sacks. I would put on cotton footie pjs underneath so she would be warm enough. We never had any trouble with them.

We used them and liked them until around 6 months when our daughter started rolling around. Then around 7 months she hated it because she could not sit up in them and by 9 months they were completely gone because she could not stand in them.

We have been using the Sleep Sacks since our son was about 2 months old, when we starting putting him in his own bed at night. They have made me sleep better knowing that he wasn't going to get the blanket over his face. It is starting to get warmer now, so we haven't used them as much, but he is at an in-between stage with them right now. We just put him in a sleeper and then in the sack. If you are worried or think they will get too cold you can put a long-sleeve onesie on under their pj's and maybe socks too. I love them.

Yes, they are great! I still use them with our 15 month old. He can stand up and walk around in them (they have a enough room at the bottom to move). I even found a Halo version at Walmart.com for $8 with free shipping to the store! And they have them in larger sizes so you can continue to use them as the child grows.

Hi,
I really liked the sleep sack and used it with my son. I think we stopped using it around 4-5 months though---he started to move around so much in his sleep, and I was afraid he'd get all tangled in the sleep sack and wake himself. My son was born in May, so the sleep sacks were perfect for those warm summer nights. I would put a onesie on my little guy, and then I'd put him in the lightweight sack, and it was a great temperature for him.

I love the sleep sacks/wearable blankets. Halo makes them in different weight fabrics so you can use one for colder weather and another for warmer weather. I'll put footed pajamas and/or a onsie and socks on our daughter too, depending on the temperature. I was afraid that her arms/hands would be cold, but it hasn't seemed to be an issue. We never put a blanket or toys in her crib. We used the sleep sacks until our first daughter was a year old (she never tried to stand up in her crib) and are currently doing this with our six month old. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I'm doing what I can to help prevent SIDS while my children are sleeping.

We have been using sleep sacks for our 5 month old daughter for the past few months. They are great! She likes to throw her feet in the air and we usually find her in the corner of the crib. The sacks have kept her feet from sticking out of the crib (no bumper in the crib)!

We have been trying to decide on when we will just put her in footie PJ's so that she can move freely. We tried it the other night and found that she was not as warm as when we put her in a onsie and a sack. I think we are going to keep the sacks until she is too long for them and/or when she needs more freedom.

Good luck!

i used them too on both of my girls...one born in april and one born in july...it is still cold in early spring and with long sleeve footed pj's and a sleep sack, I knew she was warm enough if the other blankets came off.

look to garage sales or craigs list to buy used, because you wont use them for long and can be expensive if you buy new.

I've always felt that when my children were very young that having blankets, pillows and toys in the crib could be somewhat dangerous (in regards to strangulation and suffocation).
My solution to this problem was to put them in fleece "footie" jammies and keep their room a little warmer at night and at nap time.
Good luck!
