Hello Moms! I am going to have my second child. My oldest son will be 4 years old when the baby is born and he enjoys sitting in a stroller when we are out at the mall and on outings. I am wondering what kind of stroller should I be looking at for my son AND a newborn. What has worked for you? Do you recommend any that has worked for this age range? What strollers should I avoid? Thank you for your advice~ I appreciate it very much!

I have 2 double strollers for my 2 1/2 year old and 5 month old. The Sit and Stand stroller is great and is inexpensive. My oldest loves the freedom of it and the neighbor can be in her carseat and eventually sit in it like a regular stroller. I also have the Baby Jogger city mini elite double jogger, which is pricey but more comfortable for longer trips and it holds 50 pounds on each side and is made much better than the Sit and Stand.

I would check out the sit and stand types . My older daughter liked that she could sit or stand and jump off quick (lol) It really worked well as she was too big to really ride in a stroller. It's also 5 lbs or so lighter than a true double stroller. Easier to lift into and out of the car for mom. L

Hi D.,
I had the same issue while I was hunting for a good double stroller. My girls are only a year apart, so after a lot of consideration i went with the DUOGLIDER by graco. I haven't had any problems with it until now. They are coming up on their 1st and 2nd birthdays and my toddler doesn't want to be confined to the stroller ALL the time and baby number 2 doesn't like sitting in the back of the toddler!! Figures, huh!? LOL. Anyway, I am looking into a sit and stand or joovy tandem. They are basically the same just price rangeis different. It would have made any sense to get it sooner then now BUT at this point it is almost impossible for them both to be happy in my double.

SO in all i would suggest something that your older child has the "option" to sit or walk by your side. They are pretty universal too and fir most infant carriers.

Best of luck with your search,
C.

I have an almost 5 year old and an almost 1 year old and posted this same question last year. After living it for a year I will tell you I have a Chicco double umbrella type stroller that I love. I got it at Babies R Us and it has been a life saver. It has nice padded seats that recline all the way. It also has two sun shades. I have a Sit-n-Stand too that worked great when I used an infant seat but not as well when the baby was out of the infant seat but not a great sitter in a stroller yet. I hope this helps.

We have the Phil & Ted. It is a little pricey. The big/older kid is supposed to sit in the front b/c of weight reasons, but we have her sit in the back so she can climb in and out independently. Sometimes she wants to get out and see things and sometimes she wants to sit, so that works for us. I like that it is compact and not huge, but there is not a lot of storage space. Good luck.

the sit and stand i love it easy to push and your older one can choose to ride on a step on the back or sit on a seat and the car seats clip on as well great for older children and infants

Since your older is 4 & will be pushing the height & weight limit on strollers soon & will probably also not want to be in one for much longer, I suggest a sit-n-stand style stroller. Congrats & good luck!

The best stroller for a tall child(4 year old) and a newborn would be the Baby Jogger City Elite. It has the tallest seats and the most generous canopies.

You can go to www.letsgostrolling.com and look at the stroller. If you want to see it in person you can make an appointment at their Oakland showroom for a test drive.

Joovy caboose ultralight. Love it! Fits in our sedan & our 3 year old has some independence yet also a place to rest. Limitation: you can't hang a diaper bag from the handles, reducing ur ability to pack a ton of stuff. This is pretty minor though. Happy shopping!

Congrats on #2! I'm a big fan of the Phil & Ted's Sport double stroller. Your older one can sit up front (up to 55 lbs), while the little one can snooze behind (removable seat). And there is still plenty of room to access the storage (which holds a lot). Great for walks (paved and unpaved) and local errands. If you already have the car seat(s) installed, you can easily transport from the stroller to car seat. The double stroller is easy to fold once you get the hang of it but it's a bit heavy (22-24 lbs.) to put in the trunk. I bought mine at www.pishposhbaby.com, no sales tax and free shipping at the time! Good luck.
