What Do You Do to Help Pass the Gas? in Pain Here!

I have had the worst gas today! It's not lower gas, but upper GI- right under my ribcage. I am fine as long as am sitting, but if I get up, I can barely walk. It doesn't seem to be going up or down, so what can I do to get it moving? I am not burping (or the other) as much as I would like to! I don't have any GasX or anything like that, and it's going to be too late to go to the drugstore by the time I get the kiddos down. Thanks for your suggestions! I can't take the pain anymore... ugh :(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Feeling better today- no gas really moved out though. I am thinking for a while I have had a sensitivity to MSG, and come to think of it, I had chinese food the previous day. Maybe that was it!

Drinking hot water and using a heating pad over the gas pains usually helps me. I feel the heat makes the gas rise.

I've used baking soda too. I also find the bubbles in carbonated water help, Soda water, Ginger Ale, or 7 up. I've also gotten down on all fours and arched my back like a cat and then sagged it like an old cow (Google Yoga Cat Cow). It's supposed to help with lower back pain but I find it helps get gas moving too.

No Tums? Try drinking seltzer, ginger ale, or tonic. Something like that to get you burpin'! If that doesn't work, and you don't have blood pressure issues... try a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda mixed into a glass of water (splash of lemon juice?). I feel your pain BTW.... I get the WORST gas pains right under my sternum.

A small amount of baking soda in water (maybe a tsp). It really works!

The say to lay on your left side as this puts your body in proper alignment which should release the gas and let it pass through.

A good cup of yogurt (I had god awful gas in the upper GI preggo with my first. So bad you can see it bulging out), butt up in the air. If that doesn't work I lay on my left side and gently massage in a circular motion from right to left to hopefully get it to escape out. If you're not in too much pain after you eat the yogurt walking can help too. Good luck yogurt has always done the trick for me---I was so shocked at how quickly too :)

was also gonna suggest the yoga. It's helped me survive gas due to abdominal surgery and two pregnancies.

Yoga (or any stretching).

Also bring your knees up to your chest - same as you do for a baby. (face down works pretty well)

I am sure you have passed the gas by now, but if it happens again, try crushed ice, ginger tea or something hard or with roughage (apples, grapes)

That sounds like a food allergy! They don't always have to close off your airway! You may have to wait for it to work it's way through your digestive tract. Do you get doubled over from pain? That's what happens to me when I have dairy or too many whole wheat products.

If I were you, I'd keep a food diary to narrow down what you're allergic to. A friend of mine breaks out with small rashes all over when she eats products with gluten. Cream cheese does a number on me! My son gets really gassy when he has anything with milk.

Alternatives to these products are: breads made with rice flour; soy, almond or rice milk.

Good luck!

I've been told by a few ladies that apple cider vinegar can help. Google it to see exactly how.

If you have the pain again after eating a meal with higher fat content, then it probably is your gall bladder. Just be aware that a heart attack can also have very different symptoms in women -- epigastric pain -- which is what you're describing -- can be one of them. Take care of you MaMa :>
