Personally, no... I wouldn't do a John Deere kitchen. It looks great on a tractor but would be too much for inside the house. I'd probably do white cabinets with yellow walls, or maybe a deep blue or deep reddish color.
I am sorry, but I think John Deere only looks good in 4 year old boys rooms. Not a fan of color themes in kitchens. Something neutral and grown up is best. Then decorate with fun John Deere accessories.
No, please don't paint the cabinets green!
Paint the cabinets like a rustic ivory or a white. Add in the green accents through towels, curtains, counter accessories, a litle area rug, get a john deere picture and frame it, get some cute john deere accessories, like a tractor statue or something. It's easy to do the theme by changing out accessories. It will be easier to change the theme when you tire of it in a few years or sale the home.
By maintaining a somewhat neutral backdrop with the cabinets, you still get to have fun with the theme, but you are not permanently tied to it and can still have a nice, updated classic, kitchen should you change your mind in a few years or want to decorate for different seasons.
I'm sitting next to my husband and read this to him and he said "what, is she making this up?" Funny! Well, I think maybe white cabinets, yellow walls and a few John Deer decorations would be cute without going crazy. Maybe curtains, cookie jar, a few serving dishes...you get the idea. Good luck with what you decide to do!
Well, you live in Texas....that's cattle country!! :) (I know stereo-type!)
I'm going for a Coca-Cola kitchen.....red, white and the old-fashioned glass bottle green.....
It's what makes YOU happy and YOU want to be in your kitchen!! IF you aren't happy you will dread it...don't worry about what others think until you go to sell the house...then you might have to "tone it down" like I will!! GO FOR IT!!!
Its your kitchen so do what you want. The only caution I have is if you ever decide to sell you will probably want to tone down any "theme" b/c people can't seem to grasp the fact that once they purchase the house they can change it ... If you don't plan to sell anytime soon then go for it, make it anything you want it to be :) I think it would be fun, cute and a generally happy looking kitchen.
Not my cup of tea but it is your kitchen so you should have whatever colors you like.
I live in texas and wouldnt use those colors! Im just not a yellow person. I agree with the fading. How bout white cabinets and all your accessories green? Green curtains, table cloth, stuff like that? Getcha a few shelves or bakers rack and put ur john deer decorations on it? Just a thought
john deer why? No i would do a tan or cream color. But its your kitchen. I dont like painted cabinets. I prefer wood.
Ouch with the Texas comment below! ;)
I personally wouldn't paint my cabinets green, but if that's just me. If you like it, go for it. Just remember you'll have to paint them over to sell the home, should you choose to sell it. I'm sure no one else wants a John Deer kitchen and it would make it much harder to sell.
Me personally, I'd think about how that bright green is going to wear on one after a while. Green and white, sure. Otherwise, soften the shades of the green and yellow. I'm painting our kitchen/nook yellow and red, respectively.
Have fun, whatever you choose.
Well, green and yellow ARE the John Deere colors. :) I agree with MR, if you plan to move soon I would go more neutral.
While I, personally wouldn't do it, it is not my kitchen. I do think it could look neat in a farm house or country house.
My advice is with a theme like this you really have to commit and be sure to have enough JD memorabelia, etc. to be overt about the theme.
Have fun with it!! Very creative.
No...I wouldn't but that's me. You're you. You're allowed! :)
I am tired of painting and so I am not so bold. I use colors on the walls that will go with a lot of different themes so that I can change the look of my kitchen easily. The possibility of selling our house is alway in the back of my mind so I also want colors that will please a varied audience. In the end it's your home and you do what you like.
\Yellow walls - maybe a pale grey green or white cabinetry would look much better.
Are you going to live there for many more years? If it suits your tastes, then go for it.
If you plan on moving in the next 5-7 years then absolutely not. A John Deere themed kitchen is very taste-specific. Personally, I would never consider doing that to my kitchen.
I'm all Texan and I would not do that... it's no fun to paint cabinets and if you move you will have a problem selling that! I don't think I could face that every day either.
I am currently living with a mistake I made 8 years ago. I painted the cabinets in my guest bath to match the wallpaper. They are dark blue and have a texture... :-/ I hate them now and will have to pull them out to fix it. Not in my budget currently!
So no no no.... :-P I like the suggestion to paint them white/off-white and add green accents.
Well, not me. I'd choose one bold color to focus on. My living room walls are cobalt blue, my laundry is sunny yellow, my family room is sea green, and I 've had a red dining room in the past, so I'm not adverse to color. But the rest of the colors in those rooms harmonize w/ the bold, rather than contrast. Repainting is pretty easy, but the cabinet color will be with you for a long time. That's the decision I'd really consider hard. If it really "makes the house," go for green. But if its just fun and playful with your wall color, I'd nix it for a longer term view.
If you like it and never want to sale your home then do what you like. I like a bit more subtle colors myself.
A lighter green with a rustic look would look great. I recently saw green cabinets like that and loved em. Go for it!
Go for it L.. It's your kitchen. I wouldn't paint the cabinets unless they need to be painted. If they are a perfectly good wood, or some neutral color, I would shy away from taking on the work and expense. Now, if they need to be painted anyway, I would say go with a neutral in case you decide to make a change later. You could easily do sunflowers or roosters, or something else in a few years with yellow walls. But you will limit yourself with the green cabinets. I aggree, add in the green elsewhere or maybe paint one accent wall green. I like the John Deere Idea. It sounds fun. Very creative.
Do what YOU want. Do what YOU will truly enjoy. Do what will make YOU truly happy. We have lived in our house over seven years and not done a thing to make it ours because we may be moving. My husband finally got a new job that means we don't have to move. I am ready to finally claim it as ours. However, because he will be working from home, he isn't sure we will stay in this house. Aaauuuggghhh! It doesn't feel like this is our home. It doesn't reflect our personality. I feel that by keeping it market friendly we have really missed out! Best wishes:)
A bright kitchen is fun, but I would do something more neutral (can still be bright) and then add character with your decorators and dishes...things that you can easily change out if you get tired of the look. I like the suggestion of the pale gray cabinets...then have green dishes!
I definitely would not...but everyone has different tastes. I think white cabinets with yellow walls would be nice. I'd use a soft, light yellow. OR if you are going with a bright yellow (I'm picturing the "Zen" look) I would think wood cabinets would look best.
I L. the theme, but I agree with others about not painting the cabinets. They are a pain to do and if you want to sell down the road it would make it tougher. I would paint the walls yellow and find a boarder with the tractors. If you have the plant ledge you can fill that up with hey and different tractos. John Deer has a TON of accesories so I am sure you can fill it up quickly.
Good luck!
If you are not planning on moving anytime soon, do what you want. But understand that if you ever move, you will have to repaint.
