What Could It Be? - Plainfield,IN

I haven't been feeling myself lately and it made me wonder if I could be pregnant. I took an Answer early test and it was negative, and if there was enough pregnancy hormone to be causing the symptoms I've been feeling than it would show up on the test. I've had heartburn, cramping, headaches, irritability, food cravings, and no matter how much I sleep I'm so tired!
I have a Mirena IUD in, so that means there's virtually no chance I could be pregnant...but 2 years ago I had to have my copper IUD removed b/c I somehow managed to get pregnant w/ it in (I later miscarried)so I can't help but wonder. If it's not pregnancy, what the heck is going on!

What can I do next?

I also had a Mirena IUD. I hated it because the symptoms were so horrible. I had terrible periods. I had mine removed. It might be side effects.

If you have the symptoms you should have the blood test done at the doctor. My sister is 6 months pregnant and she still can take a negative pregnacy test that is why I say to get the blood test done.

I removed my Mirena IUD in Nov. 06. I hated it, I was always tired, the headaches were horrible and I gained 9lbs in less than 6 months. My period was crazy because it would come then I would'nt see it again for three months. I had night sweats and hot flashes. My doctor thought that the progesterone that it releases may not have set well with my body. Now 5 months later all of the previous problems I had are gone.Hope this helps.

You need to go to your family doctor and get checked out and explain these issues to them. It could be something serious other than a cause for pregnancy. They will do blood work and that is a very accurate method of finding out for certain if you are indeed pregnant. If you aren't feeling yourself and you of all people know your body the best, you need to seek attention and get this resolved. Good luck and please post an update so I will learn how things worked out.

Hi! When are you due to get your period? Could it just elevated PMS symptems? If not, I'd check with your doc in case.
Good Luck:)

Do you feel like this all the time or only when it is close to your cycle? I have PMDD and about 2wks before my cycle I feel like you do. I feel like a mad woman spinning out of control. I would talk to your OB or family practitioner and see what they say. Good luck!!

It's the Mirena!! I have it and was having some weird stuff going on, including feeling pregnant, so I got online & looked for Mirena side effects. There are several websites dedicated to this subject. Some side effects are fairly mild, like feeling pregnant, and some are really, really bad.

Here's one really good site, but there are others...good luck!

Those symptoms are caused by elevated progesterone levels. Since your test was negative I have to assume you're not pregnant. Could be a bad month for PMS or maybe your Mirena isn't agreeing with you. What you should do depends on how long your symptoms last. If it's just a few days then I would wait until next month and see if they return. If it's been going on for 2 weeks then I would talk to your Gyn about changing birth control.

Also consider that some of your symptoms may not be related at all. The fatigue and cramping could be symptoms of endometriosis or thyroid problems. The heartburn and food cravings could be the result of poor diet that may be high in sugar and could signal the beginnings of insulin resistance.

If your regular Gyn is less than helpful try talking to a reproductive endocrinologist.
