Hi everyone! I have been feeling bad lately and with upcoming holidays I didn't have time to go to a doctor. I have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. I cannot eat very much and have a bitter taste in my mouth. Last week I had 3 episodes. I thought that I will be fine, but after 1-2 days the symptoms return. Has this happened to you?

What can I do next?

Go see a doctor. If this was happening to me, I'd make the time to take care of myself.

Go see a doctor. It could be anything.

Here's the thing - if you don't have time to go to the doctor because of the holidays, do you have time to be sick?

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Start a food journal so you can see if there's something you are eating that is causing this. Even though you may not have had food allergies in the past? It's possible for your body to change.

With that being said - I would call my doctor's office and tell them what is going on - I'm sure they will be open on Monday - see if they can fit you in.

It's possible you have the stomach virus that is going around.
It's possible you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
It's possible you have Crone's disease.

I'm not a doctor. Please call your doctor. If you are experiencing a fever, chest pains or even distal arm pain - go to the ER as it COULD be a heart attack...you never know!

There's a new strain of norovirus making the rounds.
Just keep your fluids/electrolytes up and forget about eating solids for awhile.
Clear soup broth, tea, Pedialyte/Gatorade, water, etc.
There's nothing to be done about a virus.
Miserable to go through but you'll be fine in a few days to a week as long as you keep well hydrated.

Could be anything from irritable bowel syndrome or one of its "cousins", or a virus, or some sort of partial blockage. Sometimes these problems occur in small clusters - so the IBS could be causing the diarrhea and cramps, but reflux could be part of the bitter taste/vomiting problem. It could be aggravated by the stress you are under, which doesn't help. You can see a doctor but this sort of thing can be hard to diagnose and it may involve a lot of tests if your doctor is the kind who likes to investigate every single possibility, no matter how remote.

There are some over-the-counter things you can do but you have to be very careful that you don't mask the problem or make things worse. Doing too many treatments can complicate things or even cause side effects. You could try a patented (therefore safe and effective for what it's designed to do) product to see if you get relief (which you would for something like IBS and reflux and diverticulitis). I work a lot in this area and find it can take 2 days to 4-6 weeks depending on how advanced the condition is - the colon doesn't heal overnight.

A virus would go away on its own but it can take a week or two, assuming you can get some rest. Drink fluids in small amounts but constantly because you are definitely getting dehydrated from the vomiting and diarrhea. Message me if you want to talk more - I'm in the nutrition field so I don't get grossed out by discussions of this nature.

If you are sick, then I hope, you are not getting others sick.
Especially during this Holiday time.

And, there is a stomach thing/Flu, going around at my kids' school.

It's going around. Just a stomach virus. Once it gets all out of your system you'll feel better.

There's an intestinal bug going around. Stay home, sleep, and try to stay hydrated until you've been fever free, vomit free, and diarrhea free for at least 24 full hours. This thing seems to last close to a week. So if you've been going about your business on the in-between days when you've been feeling crummy but not expelling gross bodily fluids, you've been passing around your ick. Way to go.

The least you could now is STAY HOME unless you're going to urgent care or your doctor. And send the rest of your family to holiday gatherings unless they start to show signs of illness.

If it's a virus, they last 7-10 days...you just have to get through it. If it's still around after that, you probably need to see a doctor. Try not to take fever medication because fevers are your body's way of fighting the virus by making an unpleasant "too hot" environment for it. Otherwise, drink warm fluids because they are easier to keep down.
