What Brand of Jeans Make You Look and Feel Beautiful?

So I posted a question earlier today about my muffin top. After reading responses, I think it may be time for a new wardrobe (plus some exercise). I don't know where to start, except for driving to Target and grabbing all colors/brands/sizes of jeans and going into the dressing room (crud - they only let you take in 6 items at a time!). I guess I need to bring an honest friend with me too (Mom tells me I look good in everything. She's in denial that I could ever be bigger than a size 3.) So what brands do you like? I heard from my post "Banana Republic" and "Gap" and "Buckles". Any other suggestions? We have your typical stores here in Texas - Kohls, DIllards, Macy's, JCP...... I have also read that "Not your daugther's Jeans" are good, but pricey. Any opinion on those? I normally don't spend more than $30 on a pair of jeans. Maybe that's my problem? Thanks again, ladies.

I'm making my list! Keep the suggestions coming! (Where do I get "7 for All Mankind", "Seventh Generation", and "Lucky Brand" ? At normal dept stores like Macy's Dillards JCP?

What can I do next?

Joe's Jeans, while pricey .... they stand up to several washings WITHOUT fading... I have found that so often I have bought less expensive jeans but the dyes used fade after a few washings. Additionally, Joe's are made well and for different shaped women. example, if you need more hip and thigh room, they have what they call the juicy cut... or if you are slimmer, they have jeans for that look as well.. I also like the fact that for someone like me who is short-waisted, I can buy a pair of low cut jeans without them being TOO low cut.. however, they still look great... again, pricey but so far , well worth it..
they have all kinds washes too.. from dark to light and bell bottom cut to ankle..

Oh and for Lucky Brand, while Nordstroms does sell some, their selection is limited. I do like that brand, but when I buy it, I go directly to a Lucky Brand Jean Store, it is there that you can find a BIGGER selection... also, their stuff is prewashed and the denim is soft.. they are comfy from the get go. these jeans are also costly, but when I had some a few years ago, they lasted a long time and the dyes held up as well..
good luck

I have tried pricey jeans, but I wasn't all that impressed. I REALLY love Levis! They are the only brand that comes in my size, and in long. The come in all different kinds of rises. I prefer the low rise, but I don't know how that would work for the problem you'd like to address. Like I said, you could try all the rises. I generally find mine at Kohls.

7 For All Mankind are my favorites hands down. I like the wider leg version, the Dojo. Dojo's come in low rise (7.5" from crotch to top of waist band) and mid rise (about 8") and high rise (about 9-9.25"). I can't afford these jeans unless I buy them on Ebay; they run about $175 typically. I've learned how to buy them on Ebay by knowing my waist, hip and inseam measurements and asking questions from the seller. I've found that even though you may own say, a size 27 of that particular style of jean, the measurements can vary from pair to pair. You might start out by ordering a pair or two from Nordstrom online and trying a couple of sizes, then returning them. I've spent anywhere from $15 to $60 buying them on Ebay. It's a bonus when they've already been hemmed w/ the original hem and are the inseam length that I need -- saves me $20 right there. Good luck!

Well, if you want amazing jeans sevens (7 for all mankind) are good, diesel, citizens of humanity are amazing... Nordstrom has amazing jeans that can have you spending upwards $200-$300! The Miss Me line at The Buckle are supposed to be amazing but also a little pricey.

So, I obviously don't buy those. But... cheaper jeans are getting better cuts as well. It also depends on your shape what types of cuts will look best. Cuts with a slight flare look great on women who are a little bigger, really, they look great on almost everyone. Pocket placement can be important too.

I agree though with J. Crew, Gap, all good jeans. I personally dislike Old Navy jeans, but maybe they are better now, they have some cute skinnies that look nice. I get a lot of my jeans at thrift stores. I know how they fit already b/c they have been washed/dried... I don't second guess with them, like I do when trying on new jeans.

INDI!!! They are custom made jeans...they fit awesome and they are super comfortable! I swear I wear them everyday! They are a pretty small brand but I noticed that they are getting their name out there more (and they have tons of groupons). They are a bit pricey but the customer service is awesome and their perfect fit promise rocks! Here's a great guide of jeans that I found with INDI and other brands in it:

In women's jeans: Parasuco... they're $80-$160, but I have a 37 inch inseam... so that's nearly all I buy since they have both 36 & 38 inch inseams. "Tall" in US sizing is a 32 or 33 inch inseam. REALLY freakin expensive. But they last for years, look goy-geous and when they start to go I just artistically patch them or have them rewoven. The $30 reweaving is soooo worth saving me over $100 on a new pair. When they fade, I buy $2 worth of dye and redye them.

In mens: I wore Tommy for years, because they were one of the few brands that would do a 28/36 (sniff...sooooo not a 28 inch waist anymore!!!)

7 jeans are *gorgeous* and last forever (italian denim just lasts), but they're as expensive (or more) than parasuco (160-250), and only usually carry 1 jean with a 36 inseam whereas Parasuco has dozens. Nordstroms usually has a 7 sale, which is where I buy my husbands. Half off once a year in the summer time. I also hit up a lot of used clothing stores for 7s for him, since he's a pretty normal size. I aim for under $50 in used, and under $100 on sale.

___________

I realize you're probably not a 36+ inseam, but since you asked what jean *I* wear...

Not your daughters jeans are great. I love them! They have all sorts of styles so you can still have slightly low cut, or straight leg, or whatever you like. And yeah, you get what you pay for... So if you can afford it, spend more than $30.

First of all... $30 is not getting you a great pair of jeans.

If you are not good at figuring out what is nest for you.. ( neither am I sometimes), get a personal shopper who knows you, your type, and your style. It works wonders and $$$ well spent!!

I love specific Guess, Miss Me, Rock Revival. They are not $30. You ge what you pay for!!! I have 2 pair of Guess I paid about $150 a pair and I still wear now..., 10 hrs later. That said, I don't have weight issues or much fluctuation and I can work with this .

Again... You get what you pay for!

Okay, well they are over your $30 limit, but they are awesome...Lucky Brand Jeans. Truthfully I haven't bought a new pair in a few years and I know the ownership of the company has changed, so maybe the quality has too, but they used to be the best I could find! I started buying less expensive jeans, but everytime I would put on my Lucky's I would be like, whoah, I look good! ;) So, I went back to them and only them! Gap aren't bad but even they are getting expensive, so I'd check out Lucky. You can get them at Buckle and sometimes Dillards but their selection isn't as good.

When I was waiting to get back into my huge dollar pre-pregnancy jeans (yes, I would spend over $200 for a fantastic butt when I was young and single with a job but I would wear the same two pairs every day for years..and NO I didn't throw them out at that price-it was inspiration to lose the baby weight 3 count'em three times... :)

Anyway. I had to get cheap interim jeans after pregnancy, and did get some from the Gap with a high enough waist to suppress the muffin. I also got some high waisted Levi's form Urban Outfitters, and Zappos has a large selection you can order and return easily if you look for higher waists.

The funny thing is, when I lost the weight, I thought my body must have changed and become "frumpy" even when I bought new "mall jeans" on my new "mom budget", I wasn't my old self. Even the brands that supposedly had cute "styles" (you know how the Gap touts all the silhouettes) I had a flat butt and momly thighs in all of them...BUT. To my amazement, when I finally put the super expensive jeans back on, voila, I had my youthful shape back. Perky young butt and all.

I swear, lots of major chain cheap jeans are just not cut to flatter like the super pricy ones if you find a good pair because they are cut to fit "everyone" and dont' have the super supportive fabrics and reinforced "areas" that help "boost" things, flattering extra length etc.

So if you can swing it, try on tons, be willing to spend (sometimes you can score good cheapies too) but try on tons. Good luck! It feels so good not to have dumpy mom jeans.

Banana republic, they have two way stretch, the fabric moves with you and hugs you in th right places. If you tone up your stomach muscle, the jeans will fit even better. The darker wash are slimming and more flattering. Don't be afraid to try just for fun bigger size. Sometimes the one size up makes all the difference. Since you live in Texas, try lightweight denim fabric. Ask a well put together sales person for advise and go shopping alone...

I'm extremely proud of you for looking into better eating habits and
exercise, rather taking Shortcuts...being healthy is the greatest thing you can do foryouself and for your children. Having a healthy and fit mom is a huge compliment. It seems you are very determined and very sharp.
Lots of luck, please keep me posted about your progress. Please don't
waste your money on plastic surgery, rather invest in the gym membership or personal trainer or healthy snacks and meal. If you have any questions, I'm in personal training field....second baby is 8months, but working hard
got me a strong six pack:)

I would wait until you are in a perect shape to invest into 7jeans. My favorite one is true religion.

My best pair of jeans is a $60 pair DKNY jeans. Daark wash always looks best too i think. And deffinately dont get the low cut. my booty crack would be hanging out. I'm short, so petites are good for me. I got them at Macys probably 3 years ago. All my other jeans are from old navy because they are cheap. They are not my favorites though. They are too stretchy.

Nothing like a GREAT pair of the good ol' fashion Levi's! I love them! If you go to Macy's, try out the American Rag Co. jeans, I love them! But you might pay abit more for them but well worth it! It all depends on your body type and what you feel comfortable in, I love skinny jeans and they make you look more "slimming" but I will admitt, if you have short leg's then it may make you look a bit more chubby. I would definately take an honest friend with you, one that you trust to give you their honest opinion. Good Luck and make it fun!

Probably already mentioned, but Old Navy has a decent selection of different jeans cuts, rises, lengths, washes, textures, etc. and they are in your price range.

Good luck! And don't get discouraged if the first 30 pairs don't fit right... Just keep trying!!
