Definitely include the boys! We had a "Princess Party" and all the boys dressed like princes and knights instead of princesses. In a Barbie party, remember that Barbie had a car!

Both of my kids (I have one boy and one girl) play with each others' toys. I don't think it will be a big deal to the kids or the parents. Have fun at your party!

At that age the boys want mind too much about the theme so much especially if you have something for them. With all the stuff they have these days you can do your cake as barbie and buy cupcakes with action figures, like spiderman or something and for the gift bags buy boy stuff to put in them. I never had boys complain at my girls parties in fact one year I had did the cake where the cake is barbie's dress then you have a body of barbie from her waist up to put on top. I remember the boys were like awesome cake.

I would just invite the girls. As long as no non-family boys are invited, nobody's feelings will be hurt.

In our pink realm, Ken just didn't cut it for the boys...enter Spiderman, or whatever male action figure these particular boys love. I just subbed in Spidey for whatever Barbie thing was happening and they all got on great and the boy moms were thrilled too!

I have two sons and one of them is four. I have found that most children at this age don't have a problem playing with "girl" or "boy" toys. We just went to a party the other week that was very "girly", and Jackson (he will be 5 march 2nd) had a great time. Maybe with the barbie party you could make sure to have Barbies Jeep or Dream Car there for the boys to race. You could also do games where pin the skirt on Barbie. That game isn't gender specific. If you just don't want to deal with all that then just send the girls invitations to there homes. If you do it that way then the other kids may never even know. I would't take it personally. I actually would be okay not having to go to another party. That is if you feel it is too girly for this age. My SIL had two parties for her daughter one year. She did the princess party and then another party at McDonalds for everyone else.
