Does anyone know the percentage of getting PG after a tubal ligation? Or does anyone know someone that has had a tubal and then gotten PG?
I think my OB said it was like 99% effective, same as the pill. Thanks all!

It depends on how long you have had it. I have been told that it becomes much less effective after 10 years.

I do know of three separate cases where women became pregnant after a tubal. It's still very rare! I believe tubals have a 98 or 99% effectiveness rating. Usually the pregnancies occur after 10 years and in two of the ones I know of, the tubes were clamped off instead of burned. Ultimately if you really think you are -just take a test.

I met a woman a few months ago who had her tubes tied 5 years ago...but on her lap was sitting her third child....4 months old. It's not 100 % effective.

Yes, my mom got pregnant after a tubal. That was a long time ago though. She had a miscarriage. Otherwise, I would have a sibling 19 years younger than me. Funny thing--she worked at an OB/GYN clinic as a lab tech and one of her doctors/bosses had done the tubal. Good luck. (FYI--I think the miscarriage was related to her age as opposed to the fact that she got pregnant after a tubal.)

It's very very slim - but possible. I don't know anyone who's gotten PG after a tubal ligation - but i do know many people who got PG on the pill - mostly cuz they either forgot to take a pill, or there were on antibiotics (which reduces the effectiveness of the pill). I got my tubes tied when I was 40 and had my son by c-section. I have no regrets - freedom!!!! Had my son been a natural delivery my husband would have had a vasectomy - but we had already discussed the tubal if a c-section.

The pill has a much LOWER effective rate, in large part because there are many many situations in which the pill is non-effective (during antibiotic courses, during "lag" times, for certain people not at ALL). The pill is only apx 92% effective... even when taken 100% accurately and lag times are respected / no sex while on antibiotics, etc. Implants and HORMONAL Iuds also have the same "doesn't work at all for some people" aspect to them (I'm one of those people, btw.). Tubals, however are GREATER than 99% effectve, as are COPPER Iuds.
